Today I got to interview my friend Khalyl about how he got started and the steps he took to become a Stationary Engineer. The camera drops out for a few minutes, but the knowledge that he drops is invaluable.

Amazing video. I'm a Stationary Engineer out here in LA (LOCAL 501) with an Unlimited Boilers license and Universal EPA 608 License. I love my trade. I'd love to work in New York. The trade varies out here. Most jobs out here don't require a boilers license.

I'd relocate for sure, too bad coming from another country is so difficult. Stationary engineering is a great career, and NYC is my favorite place on earth. As for the age that people should be taught about this stuff, I wish somebody had told me about this 15-20 years ago. My life might have been so much better if I hadn't spent so much time working for peanuts in security. I love skyscrapers, and would like nothing more than to join the engineering staff of one.

It's different in San Francisco all you have to do is take an exam and then the city and county let you do a four-year internship which every 6 months your pay go up until you get to 95 thousand a year

  • Hey guys i'm 25 and i hold a mechanical engineering degree & refrigeration license. This upcoming December i will satisfy my 1 year plant experience. I'm looking for study material for the high pressure license wirtten exam. Any help/tips would be much appreciated !

How many people went through all of the reading material? For Maryland I got the books they are like 5000 pages each. It would take years to go through all that material and know it. If that's the way everyone does it, I am reading and taking notes currently.

I have a comprehensive math exam to get in local 30 , what do I have to review ? Basic algebra?

Great video. If you went through a Plumber and HVAC 4 year apprenticeship, can this also help qualify for a High pressure boiler license?

I’m a doorman/porter in a high-rise building looking to become a stationary engineer (similar to Khalil when he started out). My union (32BJ) offers courses and a building engineer track, including HVAC training and preparation for FDNY certs and exams (like refrigeration license). Would any of this training be relevant or count as experience for becoming a stationary engineer?

Hi, I'm handyman in a commercial building, I need some advice because I have my certificate of fitness of S12/13, F58 FDS W/ACT SHOOTER & MED EMER PREP, OSHA 30 HRS Construction and health, EPA UNIVERSAL and GPRO Fundamentals of Building Green and more certificates along those years in the field, but I need some direction where I can go and submit an application, for those building, I think this is a very close circle. But I keep my faith that the door will be open any time, any advice it will be appreciated. Thanks for for the video that really keep me thrive to my goal.

I will Be retiring as a stationary engineer for NYC it’s a great job and it has a super pay check. The last hiring pool only one person was hired because he’s the only one with a license. They are in serious need of engineers.
