What a Final ! Mariya Lasitskene was down in 9th place after two failures at 1.96 and on the brink of elimination. You could feel the tension as she was walking up and down preparing for her third attempt and then.........Stop !......she has to wait for a National anthem to be played. More time for her to zone in on this final attempt. This competition was about who wanted it the most. Mariya clears 1.96 and survives elimination. She clears 1.98 and goes into third place before moving into second equal with a 2 metre clearance. I just loved that scream of delight as she took the lead for the first time with 2.02 and then sealed victory with 2.04. Even more moving were the tears at the end. What an athlete ! What a Champion ! It was the very last event to finish in the stadium. What a finale ! I love you Mariya.

I bet those who've been following Maria for a few years were emotional at the end of the contest, when she finally got that olympic gold.πŸ‡·πŸ‡ΊπŸ₯‡Especially when she cried, she who always hides her feelings during a competition... It gave me chills. I can't imagine how much pressure she must've had. She's one of the greatest athletes of all time, and an awesome person. She 1000% deserves that gold !

I cried when Lasitskene secured her gold medal. Then I cried even harder when I saw her criedπŸ₯Ί I love Yuliya, Iryna, Nicola and Yaroslava too, but I really want Lasitskene to be the champion because she deserves it! She’s focused, talented, hard working, and extraordinarily mentally strong. Just love her.

Congratulations Mariya. I am a Yaroslava fan but your tears moved me. A suffered, desired and deserved gold medal after a difficult year. This gold also pays off for Rio 2016. Now you are among the greatest ever. Congratulations again.
  • I've never felt so happy seing an athlete finally winning that long awaited gold meldal than when Mariya won it! I was crying with her. She is such a legend!

Lasitskene is a legend. But seeing her tear up after the winning moment was really emotional. Lots of love from India.
  • Lasitskene, the queen of high jump, finally showed her emotions which we've been craving for! πŸ‡·πŸ‡Ίβ€ Congrats to McDermott, one really charismatic young girl with a bright future ahead.

Mariya, the best talent, deserves Olympic gold and she got it.

The commentators really didn't give Lasitskene much due. They are going on and on about McDermott, and saying how cool and chill she was being. She was all drama! (Don't get me wrong--I enjoyed it, but it was hardly chill). Meanwhile Lasitskene was calm and quiet the whole meet and it was like they forget about her every time until she jumped, and then it's be like "Oh, yeah, there's the three-time Olympic Champion. Minimal talk about her technique, history, personality. Nothing until the win. Kind of annoyed me. What a champion. What an awesome performances by the top women, too.

This was a nail biter of a final. I am so happy for Lasitskene, she got her gold medal. I actually cried when I seen Mariya and Nicola cry, this was the best high jump final I've ever seen. Congratulations again to the medal winners

I truly miss the queen. Whenever I do, I come back and watch this with the same delight as 3 years ago. If this is her last big final, at least she will have gone out on top as a 3x world champion and an olympic champion.
  • All hail the queen Maria Six world event appearance 6 gold medals. 2014 world indoors 2015 world championship 2017 world championship 2018 world indoors 2019 world championship 2021 Olympics One of the biggest field event performer ever in the women's athletics history.
  • @Esclarecidos
A must see for everybody! Mariya's impressive resilience, and australian Nicola's impressive determination. Yaroslava has many Olympics ahead of her, and her turn will come for sure, but not without a fight. The High Jump mode shows that the competition is not against others, but an individual battle. A battle to overcome its own limits, and repeat the results. It's not enough to do it once, it's necessary to have consistency. So in sport, so in life.
  • Well from Maria (ROC) we learn that never trying to stop. Nothing impossible. I can barely not believe that in Maria's 3rd attempt will be succeed. Bcs she failed on just 1.96 two times. Congrats! Best senior ever and could give positive vibes to other young athletes!!!
  • @JS-wl3gi
How Mariya got over 2.04 after a slow start is historic. McDermott was so close but she did over her personal best ever for silver. What a show.
  • @taranin7817
Finally found this, just like many others, who were misled with the title. What I wanted to show you is this moment at 1:35:15 - you can only see her grimace and hardly hear her vocal reaction( due to outside noise) for failing to clear 198 in 1st try. I watched it on Eurosport, the noise was pretty low and you could clearly hear her grunt after she failed. It's so rare to see/hear any reaction from her, positive or negative, so, when I heard this, I knew that she will win the gold and I'm so happy for her.
  • @lorsss565
That 3rd attemp of Mariya in 1.96 is her biggest jump ever in her career. So clutch!
