In the 2020s, fans have been fortunate enough to receive LEGO pirate sets, in the form of not only a couple of remakes - those being Pirates of Barracuda Bay and the Eldorado Fortress, but also a Pirate Ship put out under the Creator theme, and a few GWPs. But that leaves the question - what's next for the LEGO Pirates property? This is The Fascinating Future of LEGO Pirates.

This video unfortunately marks the end of my LEGO Pirates retrospect for the time being, and I'd like to thank you all for your support. This series has transformed my channel for the better, and has challenged me to make the best videos I possibly can. Fear not, Pirates content isn't going anywhere - tier lists, reviews, livestreams of building legendary sets, and other commentary videos will be hitting your subscription boxes soon. Again, thank you so much.

Aside from Adventurers and Castle, this theme was also the face of LEGO.

El dorado remake made me greedy for more imperial stuff. We need a pirates theme that has the quality of the barracuda bay and EDF but has smaller sets too.

I miss this theme a lot! Here's hoping it returns one day; it does seem like there's some limiting factor on new pirate releases but I appreciate the designers using pirate elements whenever they can so the molds remain available whenever Pirates does return.

You can forget islanders, Lego wont revisit stereotypical depictions of indigenous cultures for various good reasons. But lego would do a heap of market research into who is buying what, and It would seem that younger audiences arn't generally interested in ongoing unlicensed themes, unless there is some sort of app or media hook attached. So it seems likely that the classic themes will only appear as large adult sets or the odd gwp. As for the space mega theme that is a bunch of interpretations of "space" but there has really only been one classic space set, one classic gwp and two other fun gwp that would sort of fit the classic space theme. Maybe at best you might get some sort of sailing, or high seas mega theme that would have a few nods to classic pirates but I don't think we will see a classic themed set of any description for a $10 price point on store shelves any time soon.

Imo it’s very sad they nowadays only make these fun themes with large 200$+ sets. We need proper playset lines for the children

Also in the year 2023 we receive the Scary Pirate Island set in October, a few months after the release of Eldorado Fortress

100% agree. I want LEGO to go all out with their next attempt. They’ve played it way too safe recently, more sets like barracuda bay is what we need, more original locations/ships/scenarios.
  • @JediBob
Pirates Bay is one of the best Lego sets ever
  • Lego did also release that Pirate themed rollercoaster. I'd love to see another full on non franchised Pirates line, but I'd welcome set concepts that haven't been explored before. What about a pirates base on an island that is mostly hidden inside a massive cave? A ship that uses oars well as sails? I could see a series of nanoscale ships being released almost like the architecture line - famous ships could include the Golden Hind, the Mayflower, or more generically a viking longship, a trireme, etc.

I’ve been building a city for years and have been reluctant to start a new theme for reasons of time and money. But recently I decided to start a pirate build, so I’m hoping they keep sets coming even if at a slow pace

Seems to me that Lego knows the value of this theme, and is clearly keeping it's powder dry!

Finally someone mentioned the dissaponted 30th anniversary and I am surprised no one has acknowledged the 35th anniversary of lego pirates
  • Sad to say it, but I feel like lego won't remake imperial soldiers or Islanders because they would be deemed "too offensive"
  • When I was a young teenage and the Castle line shifted into Samuri's and Ninjas, i expected Pirates to shift into some non-european themes like India, China, Chiba, Japan. I really got into studying history partly because of Lego and would have loved to see more historical themes. Marco Polo, Saracens, Mongols, etc...

Been buying lego pirate sets since 2009. Just bought the 2009 Brickbread's Bounty again recently.
  • I was just thinking one day and I thought, what if lego made a pirates game like the skywalker saga but also like sea of theives. Cant get it out of my head now.
  • @Moondoggy1941
7:10 I have the Pirate Ship that has the skull in the back and the mast falls over, I also have a lot of those Imperial Ships as well, I purchased them in the 90's.

Please don’t kick me out of the Lego pirate fan club, but I bought a Pirates of Barracuda Bay knockoff set from AliExpress today😭😩I am just ITCHING FOR MORE PIRATES. I am glad I snagged the Eldorado Fortress, but man. I love Lego Pirates and Lego Pirates of the Caribbean so much!
