A project I that actually completed in the middle of last year during the first lockdown, it pays a fleeting homage to the iconic movie of the 80s and helps fill the void while we await the much-delayed sequel. Featuring aircraft used in each of the movies (namely the F-14 Tomcat and the F/A-18 Superhornet) these are all 1/72 diecast models, suspended with fishing line or shot on a surface sprayed with concrete texture paint, then composited with backgrounds. Afterburner and missile exhaust effects were added in post. Some of the backgrounds came from my travels or from my window seat in a plane.

I also shot the planes with some diecast sports cars, both having aerodynamics and speed in common. I used a 1/43 Lotus Esprit and a 1/18 Ferrari 308 GT.

Not particularly challenging but fun to do.
