It’s sad to think that back then, baseballs used to be 99 cents at the local drug store but now it’s so hard to find good quality baseballs and they all cost at least $13 (minimum), it’s not just inflation but over the years, the price increases for everything. Some ppl might think it’s not too much but for a ball that can easily be lost and or damaged, it will get tiring for having to constantly pay for a new ball.

From my experience, finding true Rawlings MLB balls on the cheap was something my friends and I did regularly back in the late-90s & early-00s. Those balls were $12-$15 at the time and none of us were up to spending $70+ for a half-dozen balls to hit around for two hours on a Sunday morning. So, here's what we did. Here in Philly, we had quite a few sports memorabilia shops in and around the city. All of these shops had autographed balls to sell. Yes, some of them were signed by stars which upped the value, but most of them were signed by local players - many who were backups, #5 starters, utility players, etc. Shops carried these of local players because some fans just like to have something affordable or maybe they try to put together an entire "team set", or whatever. One thing happens to a baseball (in the collector's market) when a less-known player signs it - it brings the value of the ball down. Even when the balls were $12, we could get a Desi Relaford, or Kevin Jordan, or Doug Glanville signed ball for $3-$5. I'd often grab six or so and get a bulk discount and spend no more than $20 for all of them. It's a bit tougher now since there aren't nearly the amount of shops that sell these balls. But if you happen to be near one and take a look, I'd be willing to bet you'll be able to get a couple well below the cost of an unsigned ball. Good luck in your search if you choose to do so.
  • I got a story about the $25 balls (aka the official gameballs), they are assembled in my home country, Costa Rica. So when i was 6 i went to the states, my dad saw we had the time so we went to watch a Phillies vs Braves game, in that game i caught a ball. So if you think about it that ball flew 2152 miles from Costa Rica to Philly then flew another 2152 miles from Philly to Costa Rica.

Isaiah and the boys have gotten so much better at film over the years!
  • personally, i’m from a low income family so finding a good enough baseball for me is as hard as finding a good bat. i really only have a collection of six two dollar balls, a hand-me-down glove, and a old wooden bat. i’m not great at baseball, but with what i have i’ve grown a liking to the sport, i enjoy playing it, and despite having basically no money for good equipment, i make do with what i have and enjoy it. yes, i envy having a metal bat, a nice glove and a good baseball, but with what i have, i try to make the most of it, and it’s fun. so for me, two dollar balls are a lot better than a twenty-five dollar ball for me, despite a clear difference in which is better.

I don’t know if it’s just me but it feels like he was trying a little harder with the $25 ball than the $2. Either way great video as always ❤

Looks like for $25 the baseball could at least be made in the USA! At least there still a few companies still trying to make wooden bats here in the USA!

Sunday October 15th, 2023 I have a total of 5 baseballs. I caught 1 at a Charlotte Knights Baseball game on Thursday July 23rd, 2015(still own it) and I bought 4 Charlotte Knights Baseballs(1 on June 1st, 2023 & 3 on Tuesday September 12th, 2023) at the Charlotte Knights store. The ones that were bought at the store were only $10.00 each. I'm getting another Charlotte Knights Baseball(ordering online) for Christmas and another one on Saturday March 9th, 2024, the day after my birthday.

Oh my gosh the sound of the mlb balls is so freaking satisfying when hit off a wood bat, but I will say I find the mlb leather balls to be much slippery than high quality Rawlings practice baseballs that cost 1/3 as much.
