Manaphy is so glitchy

Published 2008-08-17
Ok, so in this video, my friends and I are playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl on WiFi with some codes on that make it so only Manaphy appears out of Pokeballs. During the battle, people heart swap various times. While in one of the heart swaps, player 2 is defeated, but while using player 1's character. After another heart swap, player 2 (who is defeated) can still play, and player 1 has glitched out of existence, despite having about three lives left. Guess Nintendo didn't feel the need to program Manaphy very well, did they? =P

Actually, the chance is 1 in 493 (about 0.2%).

i think its fun when that happens. its totally random and unexpected. thats why i love using the pokemon modifier.

The video response to this video (Manaphy in Brawl - Tutorial) explains that it IS possible, but extremely, extremely unlikely. But if Manaphy is still on visible on the field, it is POSSIBLE for another Manaphy to come out and cause a situation like this.

@Staggger I know the comment's kinda old, I just wated to set the record striaght. The sound in this video isn't very good. Manaphy is in fact saying "Mana, Mana....Phyyyyyy". Just go to sound test.

Oh hey this was the match where I was brb'ing until the last few seconds. Was wondering why I was still Brawling when ML it said I was dead and ML had three lives ;P

@Smashchu It's still sloppily coded to some extent. Replace Manaphy with any other pokemon, and nothing of this sort will ever happen. Yes, they made it extremely unlikely for two Manaphy to come out at the same time, but even so, the programming seems lazy (and understandably so! Afterall, if I were programming it, I probably would have done the same thing!)

true, but if you ask me, it sounded more like: PSYDUCK! KICK! KICK! KICK! KICK!

If you were to heart swap with your opponent and run off the edge, for example, you would lose a life. The glitch caused by having so many Manaphys out at once caused this strange thing to happen. It doesn't happen normally (since Manaphy is so rare).

I once had Manaphy appear and nothing happened...

Its ptrogramed so that only 2 manapys can be out at a time. Haveing more than one made it glitchy

@MuffinsAPlenty Has for Hitmonless in the original Smash Bros. That was definitely a mix up on 4Kids part. Hard to believe I know, just look at the flawless execution of the first movie. It's funny, they had the right voice, but it's like they forgot his name. And to me it's always sounded more like "PSYDUCK!!! PSY, PSY, PSY, PSY!!!"
  • @fd3
What the hell do you expect?!!? You're fricken' using a cheat to get 50 Manaphys at the same time, when there's not even supposed to be two!! Of course it would glitch!! Wow...

PS. Hmmm, is it just me, or does the Heart Swap stop working after something like 1:42 happens? Seems like you can't get the missing player back in the game, no matter what you do >.>
