Couples therapist here: Tamara, you are absolutely right in asserting your feelings with your partner. I was so proud of you! Do not let him dismiss your feelings as “silly”—this will lead to resentment and bigger issues down the line. TRUST me. Couples come to me when they’re in code red. Nip it in the bud at code blue. He should honor your feelings even if he doesn’t understand them. He should never judge your feelings as important, valid, not valid—it’s not his place as your partner to do that.
