A sequel to my video on pirates of the Caribbean 5 as I referenced the fourth film a lot so I thought it deserved its own video.

  • What do you mean the spanish had no reason at all??? It's obviously for a Holy reason cause the guy literally says before destroying the chalices "Only God may give eternal life!"
  • I know I made three comments already but in defense of Barbossa joining the british navy is actually historically accurate. The british navy pulled a Salazar and wiped out most of the pirates and some pirates were welcomed into their crew. They joined willingly for their own survival. So Barbossa being welcomed despite being a pirate is no mistake.
  • The Spanish explained why they wanted to destroy it. It's a blasphemy to Christian beliefs.
  • The Spanish did have a reason to destroy the fountain of youth I think. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure it was because they believed that only god should be able to grant eternal life. "nOt tHiS PaegAn wAtER"

Stranger tides wasn't so bad, but the 5th one was outright awful

Tell me about it. As a history lover, I was upset with how they butchered Blackbeard, and that is what ruined the whole film for me when I saw it in theaters. For me, Blackbeard should have been more like Barbosa from the first film.

You nailed it on barbosa's missed potential. That would make blackbeard more threatening/interesting and the whole film more bearable to watch. Good review.
  • @knightonart8886
I think it would have been better if Blackbeard himself was a slowly rotting zombie who barely survived Okracoke using black magic, and wants to drink the waters of the fountain to restore his vitality and live forever. An easy change and a much better and more obvious motivation than the whole Barbossa prophecy thing. And yes, I love the idea of the film opening with Barbossa losing the pearl to Blackbeard in a terrifying attack by night. But you know what would make it even better? If Blackbeard just straight up used the Pearl as his own ship instead of putting it in a bottle, since it's a much sleeker vessel than the film's lumbering portrayal of the Queen Anne's Revenge.
  • Ehh this one wasn't SO bad. Doesnt have the charm at worlds end had but the fifth one? THAT is the one that deserves to be shat on. I cant bare how they changed the lore of the compass. Jack got it from calypso but in that one it was given to him from his dying captain. That scene with young jack was ok, shows how clever and bad ass he can be. I just wish they didnt change the compass. It just completely ignores the other movies. At least On Stranger Tides is bareable to an extent and had some entertainment. The fifth one is just cringe cause of every consistency got thrown away. Also unlikable characters. Mainly Barbosa's daughter. I can't believe the words coming out of me Mouth but Elizabeth was better than her and she's a bit of a Mary Sue and even then she's tolerable.

On barbossa sailing for the British; (historical) In 1717 King George the first declared the Acts of Grace, which allowed pirates to get pardonned for their crimes and follow a straight path (or sail as privateers under flag) in an attempt to diminish the amount of pirates on sea. Maybe a similar thing happened in the POTC universe (even though the king in the movie is King George the 2nd), and Barbossa could've seen this as an opportunity to get back at Blackbeard. Just speculation tho Also there's a certain irony in P4 having a good Jack but terrible script and co-stars while 5 has a decent script and co-stars but a terrible Jack

This one is a guilty pleasure for me. I love it, but it looks like the cheapest one out of them all in my opinion. And smaller scaled, and the fountain of youth doesn't look impressive. I was expecting something beautiful, but okay. The Spaniards are chasing the fountain so they could destroy it for religious reasons. But, I miss the original crew members like Pintel and Rageti. Seriously, where are they after at worlds end? I liked Angelica and the mermaids and the escapes Jack Sparrow makes. But that's pretty much it. Oh, and Hans Zimmer is always good
  • @Chuck12312
oh well, RIP Lieutenant Groves shot by the Spanish while carrying Union Jack and Gillette in a sword fight, they lasted longer than Norrington and Thomas Beckett
  • The British actually had a need for privateers, and the tales of Barbossa made him an obvious choice.
  • @IANDURBECK
I still feel that these movies are not as bad as your microphone. Christ, I had to stop watching with your "SSSSSS" constantly drilling my ears.
  • It is very reasonable for the Spanish to destroy the pagan fountain for multiple layers of reasons: 1. They are devout Catholics of the classic Iberian fanatism, and as openly stated, this fountain might grant something for an inhuman price that faith grants by lifing virtueously. 2. In the same spiritual reasoning, there is Command I: "Thou shall not have other Gods next to me". 3. Traditionally, all non-Monotheistic religion but even Islam were taken for devil-worshipping paganism, especially the religions of Asia and the New World. 4. This is even more interesting: IF the "pagan waters" would work, this prooved the existance of other deities next to the abrahamitic Lord God. The whole fundament of the (Catholic) christendom would collapse by an instant, being prooven wrong or at least not fully monopolic. This would destabilize Europe as a whole, but especially shatter the whole ideology the Spanish built their empire on. There, it must be destroyed.
  • You would think the most expensive film ever made would probably be talked about a lot but no this movie more left in the background.
  • I may be bias because I've seen the movie literally like 200 times but I feel some of your points may be invalid
  • Above all else, this film suffers from the lack of Gore Verbinski in the director's chair. Nothing really cements how much his particular voice made this franchise work than watching some hacks trying to recreate it. It just doesn't have the same energy.
  • @sethrowley8086
I know this is an old video but allow me to clear some stuff up, Barbosa’s character history makes a lot of sense, in that time many famous pirates were offered pardons in exchange for their services as privateers and naval officers and a lot of them actually accepted the pardons but continued their piracy under pseudonyms even though this rarely worked. I feel though that as a pirate Barbosa would take any advantage possible over Blackbeard, I don’t like the movie as a whole too much but Barbosa is my favourite character in the series and I think it kinda stays true to him
  • @DCMarvel2009
I do think it’s interesting that even though he “gave up”, Jack still had a vested interest in the Fountain. But the more he discovered about the way it gives life, courtesy of Angelica, Jack’s principles start seeping in because it requires someone else to provide those extra years of life.
