Who it's for: Newcomers, as well as users looking to expand their Visio knowledge and build more advanced drawings.

What it is: Visio is a Microsoft Office program that functions like a visualization tool to show data in an easily understandable way. Most often used for data that fits well with diagrams and charts, Visio takes standard images and allows flowcharts and decision diagrams to utilize those images to explain data.

What you'll learn: To get started, we’ll show you how to easily navigate the Visio application. Next, we’ll explain how to use the drawing components of Visio and creating simple diagrams. Once you gain confidence with those tools, we’ll move on to creating organizational charts and simple floor plans. Then, we’ll tackle other drawings like cross functional flow charts and network diagram drawings. To make sure your drawings have the right look, we’ll also explore updating the styles of shapes and their connectors. In the Advanced chapters, we’ll build more advanced diagrams, with 3D and custom shapes. We’ll also dive into connecting Visio with external sources like Excel and OneDrive.

Fantastic free resource. If you watch it and take time offline to replicate the examples, you'll be up to speed in a couple of hours. Many thanks.

Awesome Video! I have a question regarding dimensions. Do you know how i can measure a curved line in Visio? I wasnt able to find any way to do that like CAD does.
  • It's weird but am only able to create a static connection bw shapes, as even if I click in the middle of the shape in order to create a connection, it always points to the dots and creates a glued connection. please guide

I'm completely stuck on one specific issue. Within Visio I can create custom shapes and I can edit templates but what I can't figure out is how to import a picture into a shape inside of an existing template or in the process of creating a template. I want to be able to create a stencil that I can use in an organizational chart that allows me to add a picture to the circle shape. I've tried editing an image with the crop tool in word and just about everything I can think of. I know there's a way but I can't find ANYTHING that tells me how to turn a photo of a team member into a circle I can incorporate into a shape or a photo into an existing circle shape.

Thank you for this tutorial! It's very helpful! Is there a template for a general taxonomy? Or would I have to use the org chart? If so, can I change the Name, Reports To etc.? Thanks again!
