Locky won the golden boot as a fullback and as a 5/8th. I think people forget how great a fullback Locky was. I'd put him only behind Slater. Locky was so fast in those days and just glided across the ground. But he also had those ball skills that saw him evolve into the best 5/8th in the world too. Early on, with Locky, Hancock, Carne, Sailor and Renouf especially, Brisbane had speed to burn and with a pack over the years including the likes of Lazarus, Carroll, Ryan, Gee, Hohn, Cann, Campion, Webcke, Tallis they were not intimidated by anyone

This team was my first season watching footy knowingly. Petro, Locky, Berrigan, carrol, Thorn, SAilor. The list goes on. Bronx nation. ❤️👊🏽

There was no stopping the Broncos that year. Powerful forwards, big wingers, and the genius of Lockyer. The Roosters played their Grand Final the week before fighting back to knock out Andrew Johns and the Knights but didn't have another performance like that in them to back up the following week, except for Luke Phillips who in my opinion was the best player on the field. The score could have been much worse if not for him.

I was there , and as a Roosters fan , it was hard to take. But they were too good on the day, and that's history. Luke Phillips was amazing that day.
  • Love this game so much! One of the greatest Bronco teams. Champion team!
  • I was at the game they didn't show Luke Phillips the Easts fullback chop down Wendell Sailor one on one, great try saving tackle. The one thing I remember was how the Broncos defense was a solid wall and no matter where Fitler kicked it either Lotte Tequiri, Wendell Sailor or Darren Lockier were there to catch the ball on the full every time.

I put two bets on this match and won one. Tuquiri to score first. And Brisbane to win by 8. Won both. Had to get a bus into the city to make those bets. Those were the days.
  • I remember watching this in Auckland NZ with my late dad it was on normal tv Back then we use to tape the games with the old VCR tapes and tape over other movies.

Back when Sydney Olympic stadium look so good with those grand stand standing opposite the goal post and track and field track was there. Sydney Olympic stadium looks shut now.

Ben Ikin gets knocked out cold with a late shoulder charge to the head, but comes back on to play?! What a legend
  • How’s the HIA protocol in 2000 - Ikin walks off like Steady Eddie and is straight back on 😬😂

Why Hegarty doesn’t dive in low for the try 3 minutes into the game, I’ll never know. Could’ve changed everything

back in the day when the footy jerseys had collars

What I remember about this GF was Brisbane's brutal defense and Luke Phillips saving a thousand tries.
