Coast Guard crews have been rescuing people stranded in communities in Florida devastated by Hurricane Ian. An aircrew on an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Miami spent much of Thursday pulling residents and their pets from flooded neighborhoods on Sanibel Island. Petty Officer 2nd Class Tyler Kilbane captured remarkable video from a camera mounted on his helmet.

  • "You'll be ok, I promise you" is exactly what they needed to hear at that moment. Thank you Tyler

You can tell this is not just a job for Tyler, his heart is in rescuing others. 💞

The older man… “IM A MARINE BROTHER. IM READY” Coast Guard Tyler was amazing. Could not have handled that situation any better. ❤
  • “You’re gonna be ok, I promise.” I don’t think people even realize the littlest things like that, mean the most to people in times like these.. It’s the way he comforted them & let them know they’d be ok. Gave clear instructions without being pushy, bossy, forceful or rushing them. Peoples body language & giving off good genuine vibes can literally help people get through some tough times a lot easier, & that’s what this man & his team did. What an amazing guy. He was made for this career. ❤

Tyler’s manner of communication brought me to tears; so oddly comforting during this rescue and disaster. If this is in his training, he performed impeccably. “What’s your name, my name’s Tyler.” “Do you have any dogs or pets with you?” “Just hang on, you’ll be alright.”
  • These are the people who deserve to be idolized rather than celebrities. These people are hero’s
  • We often take for granted how lucky we are to have service members like this looking out for us. These little acts of heroism are everything :)
  • Tyler deserves a medal. He did an amazing job saving people. His thoughfulness and kindness made a big difference on total strangers.
  • As a retired Navy search and rescue crewman, the idea of people in shock, pets without kennels, and debris EVERYWHERE is the stuff of nightmares. The entire crew and their shipmates doing the same thing elsewhere around the island is truely pride in professionalism . So proud!

"We'll take care of you allright?" Words of comfort and love. Thank you Tyler for your dedication and service.🙏

These men should be given a medal for not only being so caring with the people but also the cats and dogs. some rescues wont take the animals. These people are the best. Our pets are our families.
  • This guy is a class act. He knows the people are stressed out. So he ask their names,he talks to them in a very relaxed manner. Like everything is gonna be alright!
  • “I’m a Marine brother, I’m ready” reminded me so much of my uncle. He passed away last December and was a Marine till the day he died at 82. Man I miss him.
  • Seeing that young man's smile when Tyler came down was everything. So glad rescue teams like this exist- he must've been terrified.
  • There are not enough "thank yous" to express how I feel about you saving all of those people. God bless all of you.

Helluva pilot and what a kind, warm officer Tyler is! "I'll carry your bag." and when he made sure the young man kept hold of the dog was so sweet! What heroes these people are!
  • I am so proud of these rescuers and especially proud that I am a Coast Guard Veteran. These guys need the recognition. Thank you
