Too Much of a Person is an online archive chronicling the experiences of 100 womxn and non-binary people being told they were “too much” of something (too nice, too loud, too sensitive, too aggressive etc.) to dismiss or conform them to the current perception of how a woman should be. Womxn and non-binary people are constantly told they are “too much” of something (intimidating, sensitive, crazy, nice etc.). We believe that this “too much” is a strength that through constant criticism we tend to “shed” to fit into whatever cookie-cutter perception society holds for womxn and non-binary people. This needs to stop. The constant pressure to decapitate parts of your personality/looks to satisfy other’s expectations of how a “woman” should be, hemorrhages time and inhibits womxn and non-binary people from excelling and becoming the best version of themselves. In order to overcome this, it is essential to empower womxn and non-binary people and provide a safe space/forum for them to talk/listen to each other and learn from other’s experiences. Too Much of a Person’s online platform is the digital hearth that houses these narratives and makes them as accessible as possible. We hope to empower womxn and non-binary people and reclaim their power dimmed by projected shame. When you hear our collected stories, we hope you feel less alone.
