This week on our stone house renovation, we learnt a hard lesson about trusting our gut, as we hit a stumbling block that we should’ve seen coming (well Ricky kinda did)!

If building your own home as amateurs has a steep learning curve, this week was a bit of a rollercoaster as we tried to overcome problems making our own DIY hand poured concrete window sills in preparation for our new tiny house windows. Our cute stone cottage has lots of charm and character, but unfortunately no straight lines and this is where the trouble began! Making mistakes comes hand in hand when building a home with no experience and we've had to accept that. We're quickly learning that the key is to not get too down or frustrated by it, learn from it, pick yourself up and have another go.

We can’t afford any further delays as the hot weather is just around the corner and we have some huge home transformations to make before summer arrives at the farm!

LIKE THIS VIDEO if you enjoyed it & SUBSCRIBE to follow our journey as we document our life here in Portugal & the many DIY projects that we'll be tackling including renovating a tiny stone home, setting up systems to grow some of our own food & finally restoring the 100+ year old farm house.

Also say hi in the comments! We'd love to hear from you 😊

We're Ricky & Victoria 👋 We're slowly bringing an abandoned off grid Portuguese farm back to life & transforming it into a beautiful homestead for us & our two rescue dogs Teddy & Poppy.

We both agree that we’re not experts in anything that we do here, however we don’t let that stop us from giving it a try. We live our life by trying. We live our life by doing. We live our LIFE BY LIVI

  • Wish I could live there, are you guys looking into adopting? I am only a 40 year old child

That giant weed is mullein. Some people use it medicinally, pollinators love it.
  • @once-was
One of the bestest most humorous DIY video`s on you tube.. You are a wonderful loving couple.. Keep up the great work...
  • This 30 minutes with your video ist always the nicest on you tube, because of your humor and it is always nice to see people together, who really like each other. Kærlig hilsen from a little island, Møn, in Denmark 🍀🍀🇩🇰🇩🇰❤️❤️
  • Oh dear ones, there are no weeds, only friends we haven't met. It looks like mullein. Fabulous for ear pain. Ot fuzzy toilet paper😂 or so boy scouts said. I wasn't convinced that's the best use😮
  • Should use some metal mesh to reinforce cement. Makes the cill stronger and reduces risk of breakage when fitting to the window reveal
  • I never realized how much I missed the birds. I’m primarily bedridden and only go out maybe twice a year for appointments. I was an avid outdoorsman person and spent from sun rise to sun set outdoors. I was hit by a pickup truck while out walking in January 2016. My life has changed drastically and I miss the outside. I think getting to see little videos of the birds would be great.

Hello from Michigan, USA. I like your attitude of not giving up. Also, Teddy and Poppy are lucky to have found their forever home with you.
  • Don’t you mind Rickie,Victoria. If you want a pony then a pony you shall have. You deserve one. You get my vote. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
  • Poppy knew what she was doing, showing up at your place 🥰. She is soooooooo sweet and adorable, and fits right in with you guys, including Teddy 🥰🧡🥰🧡🥰🧡🥰 I just signed up for those bird feeder cameras! So cool! We have a lot of Hummingbirds here, and it would be so cool to watch them come to the feeder. We also feed finches, Mourning Doves, woodpeckers, and we even saw a hawk, I’m thinking, hoping to feed on a smaller bird 😬 Wow, those windowsills are beautiful!!!
  • I love seeing Poppy adoring you both. She’s so happy and grateful to you.
  • A man who is intelligent enough to recognize an idea isn't going to work, is an intelligent man indeed. Give yourself credit. I doubt Issac Newton recognized the theory of gravity the first time he saw an apple fall. "Hold your applause" I think that was the phrase you were looking for. I think they look good! 👏👏👏 Murphy's Law... If at first you don't succeed, you're about average! Well done Mr. Newton! Blessed Be!
  • O’kay Ricky “You lied”. We know you have done stone work & concrete for years 😅. Everything you two do is phenomenal & your video’s are as Artistic as you both are. I have been here from the beginning & look almost the utube Plaque!🙏🙏🙏Blessing’s
  • Window sills look great…great job as usual. You guys always figure it out in the end. Pony? Sure why not! Always a treat to see lovely Teddy and sweet Poppy, and can I just say: over 85k subscribers 🥳🎉! Won’t be long and you’ll have 100k and a cool plaque thingy from YouTube ❤.
  • Victoria, you have my vote for getting a pony! 🐎The sills look great, and I can't wait to see them in place.
  • Hello everyone. In Poland, bird recognition is not done by "Wikipedia" but by ornithologists. Ornithologists are primarily interested in the biology of birds, but also their habits, flight routes, nesting, social life, observation in the field, etc.
  • I have a saying for you as well. Once you have everything in place, or made, or painted or whatever; "In two weeks you won't even notice". Well done both of you.
  • When trying to do new things, it isn't unusual to stop and regroup on the initial idea. But that is how we all learn such things as well. No one knows everything instantly. So try and try again, if need be. But you will accomplish your goals in the end. Thumbs Up!
