This podcast is like deprogramming therapy for being chronically online
  • @cerysxox
jarvis’ thing abt being afraid to be wrong is so true i double check my own name all the time because i’m afraid of embarrassing myself by literally saying it in front of people
  • @Cavemanner
On that very fist thing about the "eating 8 spiders a year in your sleep", it was actually a social experiment by college researchers about how, if you make something SEEM factual and official, it will spread with little to no regard for sourcing the information. Obviously they proved their hypothesis like a million times over lmao

“You offer somebody shelter and they didn’t like the decor” that full on punched me in the face.
  • @DrFlash-oi6ju
That whole thing about not being wrong is so relatable, I once repeated the quote "If thou tastest a crust of bread, thou tastest all the stars and all the heavens" but I couldn't remember who said it so I looked it up and google said Robert Browning. So I looked up what poem he said it in and google said Paracelsus. So I looked up the story and it does not appear in that story at all. I also found that WB Yeats said it and quoted it to Paracelsus, the actual guy not the story. So I looked him up and unfortunately all his work is in German. So I asked one the the foremost English language experts on Paracelsus (you can just email university professors) if he said it and his response was "well it certainly is representative of his worldview, but I do not recall him ever saying that exactly." So my best guess is that WB Yeats said it as a summation of Paracelsus' philosophy and he wrote it in the form of a quote. This shit took me a week and I was just going to text the quote to a friend under a picture of some bread I made.

i was really gullible as a kid and got made fun of for it. so as i got older i overcorrected and always factchecked things before speaking on topics. people started calling me a know-it-all because i always needed to be right. it wasn't because i needed to be right but because i had an overwhelming fear of being wrong. it's gotten better but i definitely don't have a lot of friends because of it and it's still a struggle not to question or push back on things. gotta love that asd/adhd combo ♥

The thing about being wrong hit so hard, I have autism/ADHD and rejection sensitive dysphoria is so bad sometimes that it makes me feel physically sick. It's awesome that more people are talking about it
  • @erincantdrum
Sarah Z has a great video about how the more left leaning or 'safe' you try to be the more you're criticized for not doing it to the right extent or in the way that everyone deems 'appropriate'
  • @daaara
The practice Jarvis is talking about is actually called "body doubling!" It's a great way to increase your productivity by working at the same time with a friend.
  • @daaara
I would love a poster or an embroidery that just says "isn't it weird that there are two kinds of berets, and one is for guns and the other is for, like, a mime"
  • @aliamcbride
I know commenting on the way they sit is so old but I love how chill and comfy they get. Jarvis is fully lying down by 1:38:40 lmao

the jubilee thing jordan mentioned was when jordan laughed when a woman started crying at the thought of someone being hispanic and the chat went "oh but youre making fun of a single mother for crying :/" looking back im surprised he laughed it off i wouldve lost my mind
  • @fallenlulu1
Jordan is dead on with the optics thing. Those kind of people are infuriating because they only get mad at the optics of something and never look at the context or nuance of a situation.
  • @chronicrow
people thinking i dont know something when i just have incredible issues recalling specific words even though im very familiar with them is such a pet peeve of mine. especially at work (college info center) bc patrons will assume i dont know shit but i just have bad at speaking syndrome
  • @MyceliumNebula
I think you guys had a really nuanced and interesting conversation about the concept of safe spaces, it's hard to come to the conclusion that safe spaces aren't going to be perfect. Recognizing that is a really important aspect of advocating or just being a good "ally" (i hate that term sorry lmao). I see people all the time trying to contort themselves into the most all pleasing community and in a very small few of these spaces even resorting to tactics of harassment comparable to harassment campaigns run by the right. No one space is going to perfect, that's why there's a lot more than one. There's always going to be someone you don't get along with, there's always going to be some weird aspect to your community that someone doesn't vibe with. We are humans, there's irrational reasons for every single thing we think, feel, and do. I'm really sorry if this comes off weird or i said something stupid, i just smoked a bowl AND im autistic, i'd love to clarify anything if i worded it stupid lol <3

I loooooove the resurgence of Pokémon Go. I loved the beauty of that moment we all had when it first came out. It’s just so nice to get a taste of that same moment in time again. I love hearing various YouTubers talk about being back in it. Love it ❤
  • @lyffiewalen
as someone who's been both running the parasocial relationship gambit and witnessing it from an outside perspective for like ten years, it is really refreshing to see youtubers who both understand the nuances of parasociality and don't manipulate it for platform gain (cough cough dream). I do hope future generations of YouTube take a page from your book in this regard.
  • @MyceliumNebula
the “average person eats 3 spiders a year" factoid actualy just statistical error

little tip for anyone else in a house with multiple floors - have a key rack or something on the floor you enter and exit from, that way you're less likely to accidentally leave your keys upstairs and it gives you a spot to check first whenever you think you've lost your keys, this is for sure a very basic thing and im sure most people already do this but like i find it so insanely helpful for something so basic lol
