At 20:27, I think this is foreshadowing Gambit becoming the Horseman of Death and not Master Mold. There's a reason why Apocalypse is shown in the intro of episode 5 and 6 and why Mr. Sinister is being shown as the "Big Bad" of Season 1. When Sinister shows up, you know Apocalypse is lurking behind the scenes.

I think Charles lecture in the classroom is a nod to the series 'Legion'. Using the board and chalk is the same way legion learned that professor X was his father and about the battle with the shadow king in the astral plane.
