Chapters
0:00 Intro
0:37 Following step by step, practice your Kickflip while standing.
Sit in the basic position. Lay back a little bit and put your hand slightly behind your hip focusing your eyes on it. Rotate the body towards it, push on your hand and put the second one behind it at a shoulders width apart. Throw your hips around your paddle to land on the other side. Keep looking at the secondary hand through the whole move.
0:50 3 Repeat previous exercise but before putting a second hand on the
ground, elevate your body high to end up in a single handed plank and
then put your other hand on the outside of the one that was your support.
1:54 4 Do a double pump. Once your bow is dropping and the boat is at 45 degrees, press hard on the active blade and swing your secondary hand in front of you above the water. Catch the water with your paddle blade on the other side of the boat.
2:20 5 In the flow, you can practice at the peak of any wave. Not all of them will be ideal for the kickflip itself but they will be good enough to learn the timing of the bow elevation and the paddle push.

As you are taking that key stroke to pivot over, you are using the non-power side of the paddle blade, correct?
  • I often wonder if could do a similar move with a sweep roll, if get some height off the top of the wave
