This was quite the adventure for me during these past 2 days this all occurred, from waking up early in the morning to getting home late at night.

Watch for an exciting adventure across the state of Texas from Kendleton all the way to Laredo!

Canadian Pacific 2816 returns back to Mexico on this special journey!

Great footage, I chased her from Kendleton TX to San Diego. El Campo through the park was probably my favorite place, hitting that small section of jointed rail.

In case you're wondering, the spout with water gushing out of it under the locomotive is on the engineer's side of the cab. The view is under the frame from the fireman's side. The spout is the overflow from the engineer's injector, which is just one of three mechanisms that force water into the boiler to keep it topped up. The injector uses steam for create a venturi effect which jets water heated with steam past the check valve at the side of the boiler. The fireman also has an injector, and the engine is 'fed' by a feedwater heater, which is the golden clad item forward of the cab. on the running board on the side of the locomotive that we see when it is parked near the end of the video. Nice video. Well done!
  • My childhood memories, used to think they were scary monsters, fire breathing and alive. Beautiful beasts.❤❤❤

Nice footage! Thanks for the time and effort you put into recording this iconic steam trip by 2816. I can only hope the Empress revisits us in Eastern Canada.

The Empress must be very happy to be FAR AWAY from Mexico and back home safe and sound in Canada

To think just a few years ago that the Empress would be going down to Mexico let alone Texas would have been a pipedream

With three diesel-electrics, why do they need an additional generator car?
  • Canadian spit and polish on full display

El Champo should be El Campo, TX. Didn't get the restored SP depot in nearby Wharton.

The location of the train's second passing is El Campo (The Field), not El Champo (The Shampoo)! 🤣🤣🤣 Despite its Spanish-language name, El Campo is a largely Czech community. As for tender capacity, 12,000 imperial gallons equals 14,411 US gallons. They are not the same!

"Listen my boy and I will you about my new venture. The smaller trains must now give me to something of stature. Behold I give you now, the future. Presenting samson"
  • I have to know that someone has mentioned this before but what a horrible sounding steam whistle, but sometimes it sounds is if 2816 has 2 steam whistles, one that is just horrible and the other like one you'd expect to hear from such a majestic locomotive. I can't wait until it shows up in Silvis, Illinois at the end of the month to give excursion.
