  • I have never ever had such doubts about diving a wreck as when diving the Salem Express a couple of years ago; never cried during a dive before. Felt like trespassing. RIP.

Dived on her twice, 1993 and 1994. The reef is Shaab Sheer. Reef About 3 mts at low tide. Wreck at sea bed 32 mts. Still leaking oil then, Radome intact bows wide open, thrusters clear, prams, tv's carpets littered the area. Through porthole crockery visible with a red rose pattern. Bridge windows smashed, inside bridge relatively intact, bell GONE!. Doors open freely but, sad to say human bones deterred us further. A year later the trophy hunters had had there fill. Wreck, (a tomb) was plundered. Radome cover on sea bed inside gutted for souvenirs as had the bridge, oh and the crockery also gone. Locals tell of the captain knowing the risk too a short route over Shaab to save time in bad weather. So sad 'fellow?' divers have to desecrate the dead. Take away memories leave what is not yours.

Great video - I dived it last week and I can confirm that there is only 1 rowing boat remaining now...

I dived the Salem Express, this was with respect outside only, knowing the history it was a very sad dive, I have dived lots of wreaks but this was the only one to bring tears to my eyes underwater.
  • MS al-Salam Boccaccio in 98 in 2006 is another tragedy in the Red Sea, from nearly 1400 people only 388 were rescued.

Excellent video. Absolutely horrible tragedy. I was in the Navy in 1991, and we cruised right by the wreck site several times, which occurred about 2 months after we exited the Red Sea.

The loss of life is tragic, however that is an awesome rendition of Metallica’s song. God bless

J'ai de suite reconnu l ancien ferry de la société nationale corse méditerranée (SNCM)qu on prenait de Toulon pour partir en Corse pour les vacances d'été dans les années 70, chez la famille!

It was an unfortunate and tragic accident. Good photography of a beautiful ship with all the passenger luggage. It sank to a very small depth

thanx for this video... i also was everywhere there!
  • Dived this wreck about 13years ago , didn't like it at all especially with the personal debris laying on the sea bed. I remember getting caught up on the wires on my tank as we went through the bridge lucky my buddy managed to get me free not a nice experience!
  • There are no mcars on the RoRo deck, but plenty of luggage and the davids are still in resting position. So they stored people on the RoRo deck and didn't even attempt an orderly evacuation.
