Retired SEPTA Silverliners Again

Published 2012-04-27
Five Silverliner II's and III's retired from service from SEPTA (commuter rail in the Philadelphia area) sit in the freight yard near the Woodbourne station on the West Trenton line. The next-to-the-last car still has the plate showing its number, although it can't be read in this video. It's car 231. If this is the same group that is in my other video, the last one is believed to be car 237, a Silverliner III that was used almost exclusively on the Airport line for several years, and the middle one is believed to be car 222, a Silverliner III that got taken out of service after it was badly damaged in a fire in June 2010. This video was taken on Friday, April 27, 2012. These cars or similar ones had been sitting in this yard since Thursday, April 12. They are among a large group of these cars that have been retired in the past few months, replaced by the new Silverliner V cars. This particular video was taken from a SEPTA Silverliner IV car. The IV's are the workhorses of the SEPTA system!
