Recently we took a camping trip to the Bear Lake Campground outside of La Veta, CO. This is a gorgeous campground in the San Isabel National Forest. There are no hook-ups, so it is boondocking/dry camping. The campground sits at 10,480' and has 14 campsites. You can check out out more information and reserve a campsite here: www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/254080

Enjoy, thanks for watching!

We just got back from Cuchara our youth group is doing some clean up at the old ski resort the county is turning it into a park for everyone.

San Isabel National Forest was the first national forest I saw when I made my first trip to CO back in the 70s. Beautiful. We ended up parking at the fish hatchery outside Leadville and hiked up to Native lake where we camped for three days.

Gotta admit I'm a little jealous. Colorado has some beautiful scenery. Nothing but cornfields out here, but the wife and I are headed north this weekend to camp on the straits of Mackinac at wilderness state park. Got my fingers crossed my truck wont break down!

Iโ€™m a new subscriber and look forward to watching your videos. Colorado is on my list to explore hopefully next year

Brian great vid , cheers from New Mexico ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ
  • Both of those campgrounds are pretty good but I always seem to end up at Blue Lake. Cuchara is often one of my first camp stops in Colorado as I come up from Texas. Itโ€™s a neat place and Iโ€™m glad you finally experienced it.
  • So sad CMR closed. We had an Aspen Leaf condo there. Skied every weekend. Crap snow but it was close. We always hiked the Baker Creek Trail from the condo up over the Mountain to Bear Lake. I have always wanted to camp there. Little Camper Man is so cute.
  • So pretty! I tried going up there late last year and got stuck with my Jeep Cherokee trailhawk pulling my jayco 10rk. Had to back it out and dig it out of like a foot of snow lol. Sorry you had to leave a day early but looks like a great trip! Also the ski resort they are turning into an outdoor park thing with disc golf, hiking, sledding, etc. Should be awesome.

Hey Brian! What ended up being wrong with the truck from your last vid?
  • @CampgroundRecon
Bear Lake CG was one of the more memorable ones that we have visited down that way.

cool camping video. As always, love the breakfast burritos. Your son looks like he is having so much fun camping. I suppose this is the same trip which you broke down. Wondering if you found out what happened with the engine ? btw, we got our three packs today, one to steamboat and one to monarch. Perhaps we will see there this winter.

Pretty high up, wondered if the 10,000 ft 'climate' there in Colorado is the different than say 10,000 ft on the coast. I know there are some things you have to take into consideration, specially when cooking because the higher altitude brings down the boiling point of water. Or do you even notice having lived over there so long? Think maybe that's why the little one was misbehaving so much on Saturday? ;)

Yeah I thought about how that drop jon was gonna work out lol, beautiful campground other than that though just gorgeous area. Too bad youngster acting up been there done that for sure๐Ÿ˜ต๐Ÿ˜ฃ btw what's up with the truck? hopfuly you didn't get dinged to badly on that. Have a safe drive.

I would trade 10 Florida camping trips (mosquito infested, alligator, bow-constrictor and huge evasive iguanas filled) for one long camping trip in Colorado ๐Ÿ˜‚
