An interesting detail is if you chose to save the children, you will actually find them going to school in Novigrad in the quest about Dandelion s girlfriends. You go to the woman who runs the school (forgot her name) and on a desk you can find a note that has the exact names of the kids from the swamp and how they appeared out of nowhere during a night at the orphanage gates.
  • The emotional depth and nuance of this quest took me completely by surprise! Thanks for the reminder Miss Chalice - I think it's time for a replay.

23:05 The sentence before this is important as well: Anna attacked him with a dagger and tried to kill him. That very first time he hit her was in self defence as everyone has the right. Does not excuse what happened after that of course. It also matters that the player can actually figure out who and what the tree spirit really is. I already had figured it out by the time I did this quest. That was in fact what decided how I continued the quest (I chose to kill the spirit).
  • I think the bloody baron is one of the more mature quests, which is why its in the beginning of the game to set the tone and mood for the rest of it, greetings!

I remember being impatient with this quest at first. but the longer it went the more i actually cared, and the more i regretted skiping so much of the early dialogue. I think this is the quest that made me respect The Witcher, and stop skiping dialogue.

Yea this quest needs to be used in like writing classes or something. It’s one of the most beautifully written stories for a side quest I’ve seen. Better than most kid the stuff coming out of Hollywood nowadays.
  • He always reminded me of my father, a troubled man addicted to alcohol, which is why I always want to try to help redeem him in some way, just like my father I believe the baron changed into a better man. This story is the most real to me.

i loved this quest so much! the emotional turmoil and the whole "dont judge a book by its cover" is just too perfect. it was expertly done, and you did an amazing job explaining it all. id love to hear you do more witcher lore!
  • @WzDk13
Good timing with all the new witcher things being announced
  • @Fome
Another amazing lore video. The way you tell stories with passion and your gentle voice is just perfect. One of the best creators on YouTube
  • @Oversamma
Still one of the best quests of all time. I look forward to learning your thoughts on it.
  • Oooh, yay. New video~ Love the angle you take when discussing the artistry of videogame storytelling. It's just so refreshing to see others truly take to heart what the medium can really achieve. ..ah, and I'll never forget that little Lubberkin.. such a sweet lil bugger.
  • One of my favorite quests in the game and its right towards the beginning! It really sets the tone for the rest of the game with all its emotional twists and turns. I don’t know if I've seen it discussed as in depth before either. Great vid!
  • Yeah this was a rough quest. I agonised over many of the choices here. Like you say neither were innocent. I never did the choosing the right and wrong doll endings! Have to try that some time. One thing I think you missed that IS worth mentioning is the difference between freeing the Tree Spirit BEFORE you speak to the Crones and the Villagers and AFTER. The order changes things slightly I think.

The Bloody Baron questline is my favorite questline from the game, always the highlight of going through Velen in all my playthroughs. The section with the Botchling was always emotionally enjoyable to experience even on multiple playthroughs.
  • You are officially my new sleepy-time channel. I started listening to a "lore to sleep" series a while back hoping it would help my chronic insomnia and it did wonders. The quiet, docile sort of tone you use for this video was very relaxing so hoping you'll be helping me get some restful sleep while also getting to learn a bit more about the games I love.
  • @blindoutlaw
I had a rollercoaster of emotions with this quest line. Sadness, angry, heartbreak
  • I'm running on literally zero hours of sleep right now and your soft smooth voice is going to send me to the soft fluffy cloud land
  • Nice to see you doing Witcher Content! Out of all of the quests in the Witcher 3 this is still one of the mainline story quests that has stuck with me through the years, it was so impactful, yet again amazing video Chalice!
  • @aapoapina7390
Great video. I always admire your in depth-approach and studys to every video to make them as good as it can be. Please continue making these.
