Hey guys welcome back, today I mount the engine, go over more plans with it, and perform an oil change, hopefully next video we will be making some sort of power! I hope this engine last we will see. Thanks for the support and kind words!

About sizing the output shaft to suit your needs; start the engine, and use a medium file to get it true. I would use a long file, not overly aggressive, hold it to the turning shaft-adjust engine speed to where you are comfortable, then holding the file,(front and back, and then gently apply some pressure to the turning shaft and see how much, or little is coming off-evenly. Do that till you have it sized where you want it.

I'm diggin' that little thing brother. I'm gettin' one.. I've always appreciated your little channel because you're interested in a lot of similar stuff.. u seem to gravitate to the same project types and even product choices that I do. Like this little motor, and the solar, and the batteries, etc.. they're things I was considering already, and had the benefit of watching u take them thru their paces first.. I get to see your experience with them before I pull the trigger on them myself $$ I appreciate you Guinea Pigging it all..πŸ˜‚πŸ‘

I wanna see more of those little chinese diesel engines. Nice video...πŸ‘

The term KEYWAY refers to the groove machined into the crankshaft and pulley. The square piece of metal which you indicated that you didn't have is called the KEY. It keys the pulley to the crankshaft.

The 3,600 rpm is important only if you're powering AC motors which require 60 Hz. If you're converting the AC to DC to charge batteries, 3,000 rpm will work just fine.

You should go back and edit in a link to this 2nd part Video in the description text of your 1st video - with 400K views - which should make THIS video much more popular, forever. Thanks for making these!

Have you considered running the motor through a planetary or other gearing system to get the 3600RPM you need?
  • I actually got one of these engines too a little while back! Mine ended up being red hehe, so the paint seems to be random. I'm actually going to convert a gasoline generator to diesel with this, which will involve some challenges since they have tapered shafts and this engine has a normal shaft, but I think I have a solution in mind... :) I'm also going to have to make my own custom rotor bolt and stuff, and lots of different parts to make it all work - but it will be fine! Here where I live we use 50hz power so 3000RPM is perfect, for making a generator like that you adjust the full throttle stop scew until you get the desired frequency, that way you can start it slowly, and then go right to the stop screw for operation :) that's how i plan to do it anyways... Also they Can go higher than 3000 if you unscrew the stop screw further, but I don't know if it will survive... But I read somewhere of someone running it at 3600 just fine by doing it with that method, so I guess that is an option if needed! I am liking your project so far, I think yours may be more gentle to the engine than mine will be, since you can probably run at a lower RPM than me. I am also not sure if me running mine at 3000 is going to be good for the torque and power output of the engine, nobody knows where peak power RPM is on these, lol. But I guess we will find out, It is quite a challenge to make it work in the first place for me, am gonna need to fabricate some sort of really weird adapter, nobody else seems to have wanted to make a diesel generator like that before lol, and maybe there is a reason why it's not a good idea, but I don't care, I am going to have lots of fun with it. and hey if this engine breaks, they are not very expensive :) Also a quick question, when you tested the engine just sitting in the grass, how would you describe it's sound? Mine seems to knock quite a lot, but its hard to tell if it is an issue with the engine or just because it is a diesel engine with relatively thin cylinder wall and block, probably making it louder than it otherwise would be. Mine seems almost excessively loud, and I am pretty sure it's not from the exhaust, it's probably from the compression ignition itself but because I have never had one of these before or seen one IRL I have no reference for how loud they are. The first time I ran it, I almost thought there was something seriously wrong with it, but it doesnt seem to fly apart or throw its rod or break, so it's probably fine. But would love some input on this :) Anyways, great project, I am sure that is going to charge your batteries extremely well, and will probably be very fuel efficient too! And the option to run on alternative fuels makes this very appealing, that's one of the main reasons I wish to convert a generator to this engine!

as a welder fabricator of fire tenders, with these (gas) engines as pumps. I have all kinds of ideas i always want to try....Ive always wondered how much power hooking up a washer moter (backwards) to an engine would generate, should work....just am too lazy to try!

People make rocket science rebuilding startersπŸ˜‚
  • @HipaParts
Awesome generator building video. Are you up for a collaboration talking about outdoor power equipment rebuild by the way? Hipa supplies parts for small engines and maybe we would work together to help more people in the community.

P.S. Where is the link to your 3rd video about this, in THIS video description text?
  • @3dartstudio007
There's an opportunity there if you're using a motor as a generator, right? Maybe using the motor to start the engine, then switch to generate mode?
  • @thomasnagler670
I’d try to put a pillow block bearing on each side to the generator shaft. Frame it up with elongated holes for tension adjustment.
