  • I'm 26 years old, I've seen it more than 50 times and I can't stop crying when the Giant says "Superman". This movie is exciting from 99 and has an interesting story. The creator Brad Bird came up with the idea: What would happen if a weapon doesn't want to be a weapon? He dedicated it to her sister who was shot dead.

"What if a gun had a soul? And what if it didn't want to be a gun?" That was what Brad bird used as the pitch idea for this movie after he lost his sister to gun violence

one thing i like about this movie is that unlike in most sci-fi films like this, the actual military leader is shown to be both reasonable and cool-headed. if it wasnt for that lunatic mansley everything in the town would have ended peacefully, at least for the moment. the general can even be seen saluting the giant for his sacrifice

When I watched this when I was a kid I was crying at the end because this was such a beautiful movie and the fact that even though the Iron Giant was feared by people and by the Government because they saw him as a threat he still was someone who saved them from a nuclear bomb at the end and not even just that but the relationship he built with Hogarth was very beautiful and memorable
  • If children can understand the complexity of adult situations, the more prepared they are for a better future

That was a very sweet reaction. I was one of the original animators on "The Iron Giant". And we are all so so sooo glad that it found it's audience and that it's so loved. Thanks for the sweet reaction vid. Glad you enjoyed it. :)

In the 90's, cartoons treated kids smart enough to talk about complex issues like death, guns, divorce, mental illness, etc. I miss the 90's
  • In case you didn't know, the voice of the robot is from Vin Diesel, one of the main protagonist of the Fast&Furious franchise, and who also gives voice to Groot in the MCU.....

0:42 Uranus was the name of the primordial Greek deity who was essentially the personification of the sky. The English pun is something that was just kind of came about coincidentally much later, and back in the day they were naming all the celestial bodies after Roman mythological deities.
  • I can't tell how many times i watched this movie as a kid, it was one of my favorites and still moves something inside (and i don't ever thought i will be saying this, but Vin Diesel's performance here is outstanding 🤣) Thanks for the reaction, SuperDuaffy

There's a deleted scene which was restored on the director's cut, and it gives a lot more meaning to the story. The giant was one of many such soldiers of a hostile alien empire, and while asleep at Dean's scrap yard he has a flashback dream about helping to destroy planets. I think it's strongly implied he was sent to Earth as a scout for a potential invasion, but then he lost his memory and was taught kindness by a child. Hogarth can't know it, but in befriending the giant he may have also saved the entire world.

You absolutely need to watch "The Lost City of Atlantis" if you like this art style. Loved this film, as a kid you relate to Hogarth, but as an adult we all appreciate Dean 😄
  • it is realy nice that the iron giant have a great role model to inspire him, superman, who is pretty much the best role model someone can aspire to be, a nice and gentle hero who protects others at all cost <3
  • I keep being reminded that Vin Diesel voices the giant. I remember this film as a kid and it really went unnoticed. The simplicity of it coupled with fun characters and lessons makes it really good.

I learned about this movie from a father who took his children to see it. I saw it and there were grown men with tears in their eyes. I showed it later to a friend who I consider tough and even he was fighting back tears. Its worse when men fight tears because its so obvious they are affected and its awful to see them fight back emotions. When I think about this movie I now feel only this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uC9Ju2Q_Tu0
  • fun fact: In 1963, the American author Ted Hughes wrote the story The Iron Man for his children. Hughes wrote the story shortly after the death of his wife Sylvia Plath and was intended as a distraction for his children

I'm nearing 40, saw this movie when it first was released on home video and I still weep like a baby every single time i hear the giant say that last "Superman" line.
  • All these years later....even though I'm now in my 50s...that last 'Soooooperman' makes me tear up every single time...
