Sky's Ashish Joshi has been to Blackpool where many residents have to decide between heating or eating, as the cost of living crisis continues to hit the Lancashire town.

The government says it is acting to help the most vulnerable communities in areas like Blackpool.

A spokesman said: "We are already tackling health disparities in the North West of England - including working to reduce drugs-related deaths in Liverpool and Blackpool, supporting struggling families to give children in the poorest communities the best start in life, and addressing inequalities among some of the region's most vulnerable groups, such as homeless people, prison leavers and sex workers."

He added: "We will set out further action through a white paper later this year."

I grew up in a house with no central heating, and I remember the misery of it.
  • I firmly believe the energy companies have jacked up the price far more than they needed too, it's a very shady business and one where assets are often hidden from the eyes of the government and public alike.
  • NOT JUST BLACKPOOL 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🙄🙄
  • Would it not be nice if the royal family charity built housing cheaply and efficiently and damp proof and sold or rented to people dealing with mental illness?

Sad to see, people struggling to even support the food banks, then it's usually the poor helping the poor.

Mental health isn't taken seriously in this country and unfortunately if people don't listen its gonna happen more and more

All these corrupt energy/gas/oil corporations should be held accountable. The same is happening in many countries. Wealthy powerful elites own these companies that governments allow to crush those without! Where is the humanity? Greed kills.

So sad and heartbreaking. I really hope they can keep going to support people as they are
  • Blackpools tory MP said in the house of commons that all the dirty poor people need to get a job. Hopefully they will see sense at the next election

I've been following the programme on YouTube for quite a while now. The work those volunteers do is amazing. Let's hope with the exposure from sky news people wake up.

How did one of the richest countries in the world get itself in this situation . Seems like hell
  • UK has spent 200 million pounds to provide military aid to Ukraine and its citizens have to choose between eating and heating. explain that
  • We need to separate the issues of food poverty and other problems like drug addiction and domestic violence.. this report is muddled

What Blackpool is experiencing is shocking for the 6th riches country. The wealth of the UK is not from the working class. The data on wealth is illicit money from foreigners deposited in the London Banks. The working class is living in poverty. The UK is really a poor country.
