   • Minnesota Flooding today in Mankato R...

Rapidan Dam just south of Mankato, Minnesota. The dam was built near Rapidan, Minnesota just SW of Mankato, Minnesota in 1908-1910. The dam while inspected in 2021 was told it needed to be replaced or fixed, it wasn’t. Now if it falls apart completely this week, could cause extensive damage to the Mankato, Minnesota area.
Garden City, Minnesota a few minutes away-nearby, I shot flooding at parks, roads and houses as well.

My Uncle Amos said, makes for a perfect location for a pop-up Hotdog and Burger stand.
  • Just look at all those high emissions SUVs stranded between bridges having nowhere to go. What a delight.
  • Interesting fact: Back in the seventies and eighties; the bridge south of the dam didn't exist yet. The grassy hillside on the right used to be a drivable roadway and visitors. to the dam area and the Lil' Dam Store, would actually drive down the hill and over the the top of the dam. That flat area you see was the actual roadway into this iconic area! I personally know a gentleman, who used to drive a milk truck, have a serious roll-over accident with his milk truck, on the gravel road before the dam!

It's not clear from the video what actually happened, or what the nature of the damage to the dam is. Was it overtopped at some point, or was some other structure damaged? The water looks like it's flowing through sluiceways, but it does look "uncontrolled".

There are so many towns around Minnesota and Iowa that are almost completely under water!
  • Why have there been no efforts to remove the debris and improve the flow at the gates and take pressure off the cut ?
  • Why aren't they using a drag line to clear the debris. Don't they have drag lines locally
  • The dam was over topped that’s a whole lot different than the dam is failing.
  • That dam looks like it's going to hold. Officials say it's only going to raise the water level downstream less than two feet, if it does collapse. Which isn't flood level anyway

At 4:30 why do you repeat the clip, I'm guessing it's an editing oops? ;-)
