How to get Bearings back in

Published 2024-07-19
Getting bearings back in is not an act of coincidence. There are some measurements required to make sure the press fit will do the job just fine. Either we get the tolerances of oversize diameter out of the maintenance manual, or if these data are not available with precise information, we need to look it up in the tables. The bearing seat can be worn out over the years. If its minor, glue could still fix the bearing to a certain extend. If it is worn out too much, only an increase of the bore size with an oversize bearing combination will help.

Never use a hammer, you might damage the bearing and bearing case and further, you don’t have the feeling for the correct pressure application.

Consider gluing the bearings in only after figuring out an out of tolerance situation.

Apply heat and cold in the correct amount. Heat for the bearing seat and cold for the bearing.

Use a hydraulic press with perfect alignment for the final press in process.
