Aimed at both improving pace of play and preventing opponent sign-stealing, PitchCom eliminates the need for a catcher’s traditional finger signals. Rather, the catcher wears a forearm sleeve -- resembling a remote control -- with nine buttons for calling the pitch and location.

Breaking News! The Houston Astros have just purchased a telecommunications satellite!
  • @KT-ki6gz
The Astros are already developing a signal interceptor for the hitters' helmets
  • I'm normally a traditionalist, but I like this. My only concern is if the crowd will be too loud in the playoffs to hear it. Also I would hate to see technical difficulties or low batteries interfere with a game. It won't be 100% perfect, but it's better than the old hand signal system. Also they can always fall back to hand signs if something goes wrong
  • Thanks for explaining this. I’ve been trying to figure it out by just watching the games but the system is obviously designed to be discreet.
  • Maybe cut the TV commercial time by 25% if they're wanting to speed things up. It'd be an instant improvement but corporate baseball doesn't work that way
  • this was a really clear demonstration that helped me understand pitch com so thanks fellas.
  • This is good for people with disabilities that still want play the game. A good step in the right direction even if it wasn't designed with them in mind.
  • Wow this is awesome I had been wondering how it worked it better than I expected.

Great explanation. Love that they use the voice from Nintendo's "Double Dribble"!
  • I just heard an interview with Padres Darvish who said that it was many times difficult to hear because of the loud noise at the ground. So after missing the comments, they actually had to go back to hand signal to communicate again…Darvish said its a good concept but the problem is you cant always hear…

I just assumed this is how it worked, but nice to confirm it. It was a brilliant addition.
  • Excited to see how this new technology is implemented in this timeless game!
  • Still of the opinion that sign stealing is just part of the dynamics of the game. However, I love this.
  • @fmata011
It either works on Bluetooth technology or radio frequencies. Either way the signal can be intersepted or jammed.
  • First thing I thought about when I saw this implemented was that it would help language barriers between catcher and pitcher

Is there a button that says "drill him"? Asking for a friend.
