This 1 minute time-lapse video captures the 48 hour blizzard of winter storm Jonas that hit the east coast of the United States between January 22 and 24, 2016. The camera was set up on our front porch in northern Virginia, USA, and captured 1 frame every 30 seconds. I further compressed it down to 1 frame every 90 seconds to produce this video which culminates with the beautiful sunrise on Sunday morning. You can even see Venus rising in the east just before sunrise. The final measurement on the yardstick was 31 inches or 79 centimeters. It is very interesting to see how the snow compresses somewhat right before sunrise.

By popular demand, here is a 3 1/2 minute version of the same custom synthesized music soundtrack "Wonder and Awe" that was used in this video.    • Winter "Wonder and Awe"

A short clip from this video was featured on Al Roker's new show, Weather Hacks, which premiered on The Weather Channel (TWC) on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 10 pm EST.

I remember this blizzard!! We got weeks off of school and I played outside with my dog for majority of the time <3
  • I remember the 2016 blizzard being the worst for me. My dog got sick with cancer, yet my family and I didn't know about it until weeks after the blizzard. I do remember shoveling out the driveway and my parents taking our dog to the emergency vet. We had to put her down when the vet told us it was actually cancer that was making her sick and the vet did say she wouldn't survive the surgery to remove the cancerous tumors. I miss you Raven!

Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Blizzard Nation attacked. Only the Chair, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished.

It's interesting to see this recommended to me. I love how this video never aged much and we can witness the publisher actually respond to comments even in 2023.
