One day I'll be mature enough to look at the early Republic map and not giggle. Today is not that day.
  • I love hearing about ancient Star Wars history, it feels like the Silmarillion in space
  • I like this period because there’s so much mystery surrounding it. Opportunity for some real character building in the future.

No wonder it was so hard for the Jedi Order to leave the Republic and align themselves as a neutral party. Without the Republic they may have been destroyed by the threats to come and they shared common goals so after years and years of this friendship to leave would be a massive insult on that history.

The Jedi: “We’re the guardians of peace and justice in the Republic.” Also the Jedi: “Let’s fight a bunch of wars against ourselves and then eventually try to genocide the entire Sith species to protect the Republic.”

I dont think the Jedi were evil but borderline fanitical fundementalists.

Honestly, it seems to me that the Jedi were always looking backwards. Those few Jedi looking forward seemed more and more ostracized for it (exposing an otherwise quiet overwhelming fear of the Jedi, the emergence of the dark side). In my personal opinion the Jedi needed to conquer this fear first before agreeing to ally themselves as an order with any other part of the galaxy. Ultimately I believe the "legend" of the Jedi, the perceptually highly advanced civilization, was what kept them from seeing that they were not as ready as many thought (and in fact more in their infancy in many ways). Further, by not truly overcoming the dark side the Jedi carried it out into the unknown where there was no way to know who was or wasn't going to lose their way. This made the involvement of even isolated Jedi sent on isolated missions a very real gamble. Between these two points the fear of the dark side and the threat of the unknown the Jedi more often ended up becoming their fears and fighting against one another than they probably ever should have... In a sense, the decision to see their future outside themselves rather than from within themselves ensured that the Schism War (much as the original conflict of the Jedi) would never end... only reincarnate.

Fighting a few dozen Jedi is a tall enough task to make even the most battle-hardened commanders have doubts, but to fight an entire army of Jedi moving as a single organism to cut down your forces is absolutely terrifying.

Pretty sad we never got a book or comic series on Xendor and the Legions of Lettow. It would have been interesting to see especially if they got the right author to do so.

By the time they called themselves "Jedi" they no longer taught the idea of balance.
