clutch has nothing to do with shifting gears, it just separates the transmission from the engine to take the load off for smooth shifting. But if you can feel the accelerator properly you can take the pressure away from the gears and you can clutch-less shift. i know some people say its bad for your transmission and stuff. but whoever out there knows how to do it know it even feels smoother than the shifting with a clutch. it doesn't hurt anything at all.

@zoslond you dont need to on down shifts if your rpms are low enough, altho it does kindof shift hard

My first bike was a 1200cc Bandit (built) and here we are, 3 years later. I'm pretty smart, though.

cont'd... I considered buying a SS when I purchased the FZ1 but after riding a friend's SS on some longer trips I found it wasn't comfortable for me. The best compromise at the time was a bike with good performance and a comfortable enough ride. I do know folks who ride 300 + miles a day on SS with no problem for days at a time. They're smaller that average people though. Have a good one and be safe.

@inlovewhonda you dont even need to let go of throttle in certain situation, you can go full throttle while shifting.

I wear my fox dirt bike gloves...lol. Love them and I cut back my clutch lever for two finger action.

if you know what you'r doing(on a bike) you will know that pulling in the clutch, shifting up or down, then letting the clutch out is not necessary when driving at low rmp's. all it takes is good timing and no damage is done to the gear box.
