This video discusses use cases for deploying a Battery Eliminator Circuit device in your RC plane. There is also a how-to build a BEC splice so you can add and remove a BEC to any plane easily.

  • Another well explained video. Well worth making to keep your plane on the safe side.

You have a video on everything involved with electric flight. Thank you so much!

Good Job , John , I do love this video ,

Awesome video. I love the bloopers. You are human. Hehehehe.

Hi... Jhon.. Help me.. does the esc cable to the red receiver have to be disconnected? and what will happen if all the esc cables to the receiver are connected together with an external ubec? Thank' jhon

I am curious about knowing how you do connect and test the UBEC and run the ESC together.

I was thinking you were going to forget about LOAD, but you finally remembered. That’s where I’ve had to install a stand alone BEC. Most that are onboard the ESC are 3Amp to maybe 5Amp. The stand alone BEC’s come in higher amperage ratings. Also, if the ESC you’re using has a BEC, I just remove the center wire from the plug, I would leave the ground wire and signal wire. Why did you say remove both Hot and Ground and leave Signal only? Is there a reason behind that? I would think the ground going to the ESC might help keep the Signal to the ESC cleaner.

At 15:46 I have a question about holding the servo or a servo throw movement that exceeds the mechanical clearance for the servo to move . I am talking about an m5 air dropper unit i purchased from amazon . It is an rc cargo hook that straps onto a model and has its own remote control button . But it reaches the open hook position and chatters and grinds and then beeps and stops the servo . Push the open button and it closes nicely and huts the end of it's hook against the stop and beeps and stoos the servo . It uses the jamming brake action of a stop block that the servo cannot move or break to stop and beep . Or is that an esc beeping ? There is no way to calibrate the servo travel that i can see . Will this keep working ? My power battery drill will do the same thing if a screw it is trying to put in stops the drill from turning . My question is that it closes and beeps perfect like a machine . But opens all the way and at the end it chatters and skips gears grinding noise and then stops and beeps . Ok . My fix idea is that the gears teeth on a rack and pinion slider are grinding off at the open end . Soon if the teeth get too small it might nit catch and shut . But if i move the end stop closer towards the middle by glueing a block in its rail groove it will stop where teeth are still good and stop without chattering and grinding . ?

Good video. Would you recommend to use separate bat for fpv equipment on 500 size helicopter or it woun't bring much benefits + i get extra weight? Should I just use main bat to power everything where bec goes to receiver?

How many servos can be handled by a typical bec? I have an airliner which uses over 12 servos. What bec would you recommend?
  • Great video John. One [stupid] question? I made a couple of these UBEC by pass leads. Where does the FC fit into hooking up the separate UBEC? Just want to be sure. Thanks

So can you conclude that better to get opto esc rather than bec esc? I will use it in the wing with flight controller.
  • Hi David so you are bypassing the bec in the esc why do you do this sorry im new to electric in rc aircraft regards ray 😀

Hi. im having separate ubec of output 5v 7A. and esc with bec of 5v 2A. can i connect both esc(with bec) and separate ubec in parallel to my receiver? i want double safety just in case my external ubec fails in midflight.
  • Instead of a BEC, could I just get 5v receiver power from the power distribution board?
  • @tbremard
great video. at 13:30 you say that when you connect a bec to receiver you should connect esc with signal only. I do not understand why you do not connect ground of esc to receiver.
  • @edwincordero8
Hi. My rc cars ESC BEC is not working correctly. Can I use a BEC to supply power to the receiver, and still use the ESC to power motor? If yes, how? Please help. Many thanks.

Put thicker insulation on the wires
