Join me and some special guests as we watch The Fellowship of the Ring to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its theatrical release!

HOW IT WORKS:
1) Pull up your DVD, Bluray, or Digital Copy of The Fellowship of the Ring (EXTENDED EDITION)
2) Use a second screen, phone, tablet, or whatever to pull up this stream.
3) We all start playing the film at the same time, watching together. I'll have special guests like Cliff from @TheOneRing and Yoystan from @Men of the West and we will read your comments, answer questions, and share thoughts of our own in kind of a running "Fan Commentary" with the film.

*If you are unaware, I cannot legally stream the actual film, which is why we will merely be syncing together in this watch party format. I will have a running timer throughout, so if you come late or get interrupted, you can easily locate our position in the film!

I was in the theater 20 years ago today watching this with my family when I was 9. I fell in love with the movies and the story and ritually watch them every X-mas. Here's to the start of the next rewatch. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all. Cheers!

It is amazing that it has been 20 years. I discovered Tolkien and Middle Earth. While in college. Having them on screen was such a joy. Seeing people's reaction to them was so much fun.

  • Happy 20th anniversary Fellowship of the Ring!!! Thank you Nerd of the Rings!!! I hope you will do this next year with the Two Towers!!!
  • I love how I can listen to you guys without actually watching the movie, yet, I 100% see every scene as you describe these extra things. What a nice idea it was to do that. The only bad thing is I put that video to fall asleep and here I am at 2 am, fully awake and just wanting to hear you commenting Two Towers next!

Matt thank you so much for your channel. Following along with this was such a treat that I would never have been able to appreciate if not for all your Tolkien explained videos during this pandemic! I have such a fascination with the history of this world that I had no idea about before hand. I've seen all the movies and played LOTRO but now my love for the movies and the game is an obsession thanks to your videos. All the references in this watch-party are little nuggets that would have gone right over my head just a few months ago!

The sound effect of that ring hitting the floor was absolutely amazing it sounded like it weighed like 1000 lbs Bilbo sounded like a different person immediately after just the way this movie tries to let you know the actual weight of htis ring is amazing with the score. Keep up the good work guys.

When I was in fifth grade, our reading textbook had the first chapter of the hobbit in it. When I read it, I had to have more, so i went to the neighborhood bookstore, and bought the hobbit in paperback , I read it several times before finding the Lord of the Rings trilogy in the same store. I read them so many times. That was all before the cartoon of the Hobbit came out. I loved that movie. My father bought the vinyl album of the Hobbit soundtrack with the movie and music just like watching the movie. This was before VCR tapes. When I was able I bought the VCR tape of the hobbit, and then the Lord of the Rings cartoon. I have always loved these books and movies.

I was 12 when the fellowship came to the theaters. Saw it 5 times. My parents were furious and it changed my life.
  • I started about ten minutes after you, so I couldn’t watch it with you guys. Even then, I would’ve been desynced (or however you spell it) because I had to switch discs after Pippin says “So where are we going?” But I still had a great time. These movies have barely aged in the last twenty years.
