PFAS are forever chemicals and the most toxic compounds we know — and the primary path to toxicity is by eating and drinking. These chemicals are everywhere and have been found in everything from food to water to rain.

  • I would wake up at 2 in the morning to pee and see my husband watching another PFAS webinar in bed with his earbuds on while he made this episode. Obsession!
  • @elimcjones7722
I work in the environmental remediation industry, and I first heard about this 3 years ago. It is difficult to sample for PFAS because the sampling tools used to sample the water often contaminate the sample. When talking to manufactures it's hard to confirm they are using PFAS free materials, because they don't know. Its nice to see people are talking about this.

This is absolutely crazy and more than a little scary, but thank you again for another well-put together video!
  • @yarn1471
If a chemical company is found knowing spreading contaminated chemicals they should go to prison. Straight up.

Unfortunally, I live in Belgium (Yes, with the Pfas Strawberries). I lived near the Antwerp Harbor, only 12 km away from the 3M plant, that has been dumping PFAS and PFOA's in the river Schelde for decades . I have coeliacs disease, a kidney cyst 2 cm in diameter, and I have high cholesterol. Luckily I have not been eating animals and have been mostly plant based for the past 25 years. I have been avoiding non stick pans, but here you can just not escape these toxic compounds. It breaks my hart to think I have been breastfeeding every one of my 3 children for at least 12 months. Antwerp is one of the hotspots for Pfas in the world. Probably only because scientist were looking for it. My youngest son has agreed on participating in a human bio-monitoring study. I am so curious for the results!!! Thanks for the info Chris, and thanks to your lovely wife also ;-)!!!

This is my favorite video so far. It breaks my heart to think of all the people, especially young mothers, who are doing their best to care for their families/communities and inadvertently poisoning them at the same time. I just can't understand why companies are allowed to dump forever chemicals into the environment without forever consequences to match.

I love how your videos are so engaging that I can send them to my friends & family, knowing they’ll be riveted enough to actually watch & get the lifesaving messages out of them. Thank you for the generous public service you do!
  • Well, that was really depressing! I'm glad at least my wife and I have been WFPB for over ten years now. However, it looks as though any exposure to PFAS is unavoidable. Thanks for putting this together though. I'm sure it was mentally and emotionally difficult just to even address this topic head-on. If you really want to get everyone depressed, you should do an episode on glyphosate sometime.
  • @JaxObsessed
And people wonder why I'm so f---ing angry about unregulated capitalism. The story about how human greed, hubris, and incomprehensible gullibility has gravely injured and made toxic our tiny blue dot. Thank you, Chris! Again, you bring the bombs. Love you long time.
  • @xanxus8272
The hero has returned. I saw the Bloomberg video on PFAS just a few days ago
  • @janicek456
I was in tears throughout much of this video. I remember hearing many years ago, that Dupont had created something bad. However, I was under the impression it had been fixed. Big companies make choices that kill their customers, directly or indirectly, everyday - how can that be? How have we created a world where any of this is accepted? 😢 Thank you for your efforts to enlighten.
  • @Darkstar001
I remember here in Australia reading about the airbase not so far from my place doing just this with the firefighting foam. I dont think the farmers and locals affected were ever compensated or anything. And so few people even know about it really. But considering it's also in an area prone to flooding. Scary to think how many people all over the world are eating home grown foods that are contaminated and they have no idea.
  • @danh5637
Charlotte Gerson said to only use stainless steel pans back in the 1980s she knew Teflon etc was toxic. And also to distill all water that enters or touches your body. She was ahead of all of us!
  • PFAS are so bad that John Mayer wrote a song about them them titled “You’re gonna live forever in me” But seriously. This might be your best, if not most important video that you’ve made Chris. This information is vitally important for everyone. So it should be shared with everyone. So if any of you in the comments section have enjoyed this video, share it with your friends and family and have them share it with their friends and so on and so on….
  • @dfpguitar
Thanks for covering this complex problem without a specific bias or agenda. Without claiming any specific diet is going to save us. Sometimes problems are bigger than that, and usually when there is no way to turn it into a useful narrative these stories dont even get covered. I am personally shocked that PFAS products , especially cookware, is still sold everywhere.
  • A lot of nutrition journalists frequently imply that the WFPB "gurus" like Dr. Kalper, Esselstyn, Ornish, and the like engage in unnecessary fear-mongering. But they were the only group I encountered warning people to avoid seafood and related products like fish oil supplements because of contamination levels. It looks like they were correct in their cautions. And, as Chris mentioned in the comment section on a Simon Hill podcast, a WFPB diet and an active lifestyle seem to have worked wonders on his cardiovascular health.

15:28 -- My father, who is now 83 years old, was a dedicated cross-country skier who routinely waxed his wood skis -- and now has Stage 3 (of the 5 stages) kidney disease which was previously unknown in his family. This could be related to his use of the ski waxes as noted at this mark ❤‍🩹 As the EPA noted in January 2022 in their EPA Document # 305S21001: "Studies indicate that PFOA and PFOS can cause reproductive and developmental effects, impair liver and kidney functions, disrupt thyroid hormones (PFOS), impact the immune system in laboratory animals, and cause cancer tumors in animals (PFOA)." Also -- Apparently DuPont and 3M have 18 displeased viewers? 🙄☠ * Excellent * - and horrifying - video! Thank you, Plant Chompers 🍇 I hope we and the rest of humanity can figure out how to 'detox' as much as we can from this toxic junk which is still flooding our world and bodie
  • @ceecollette6708
I live close to the Chemours facility in NC. Grew up here. It’s hard not to be obsessed with (and extremely worried about) this.
  • @StephanieLuff
I was just thinking the other day “why do we all have thyroid issues? Are we just over treating or has something changed?” Well thank you for answering that for me.
  • “Bio-accumulation up the food chain”. Just another argument against being cruel and inhumane to sentient beings. Thank you to Chris and his family for supporting his important work. He is an excellent example of the wisdom of elders, though he is entirely youthful!
