BIKING AS MEDITATION (With quotes by Alan Watts)

Published 2024-04-20
The feelings and minds we generate on a ride are directly related to the teachings of ancient wisdom from 2,600 years ago. Leading to increased contentment, peace of mind and a step towards the goal of enlightenment. We just need to harness this, but the good news is that this passion of motorcycling does this for you.

Beautifully done. Six weeks ago, having a Zen moment cruising twisties on the moors near Grantown-on-Spey, I hit a ridge of gravel, skidded and came off. As I was sliding along the road at about 50mph, I curiously wondered, "Am I going to die." The bike and I hit a stock fence, which acted as an arrestor wire. Then the reality of being shaken but not broken. Bike written off. Am awaiting a new Triumph Speed 400. Portugal in June, third trip to the Pyrenees, and Pico de Europa, to live again, on a bike, as you so well described. Go well.

Good post. If anyone watching this clip would like to explore the subject further may i recommend the following books : ' Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance' by robert M Persig. 'Be Here Now' and 'Doing Your Own Being' by Babba Ram Dass (A.K.A., Dr. Robert Alpert)
  • Most bikers these days sadly are the exact opposite of what you say. Most seem to only appreciate the very latest, bells+whistles, 2 wheeled car,£15k+ weekend play things. Image is everything, style over substance. "F***k the expense, it's just another consumables toy to rent on a p.c.p." The total opposite of true freedom without ego.😢
