Hi, olga before taking money from exchange offices ask them count the money with money counting machine before you take it. That way you can easily spot the fake bills. As a Turk I have never given a fake lira so please report the exchange office to the police if you have time

Excellent and detailed video. By the way I have also heard of a scam that happens in Italy and quite possible can happen anywhere. This is especially on the buses from Airport to the city center that is typically a long ride of 30 minutes plus. A passenger who is a con will buy a ticket as though like a traveler from Airport to city center. He will check in a bag, inside which will be a con man / thief usually trained small young boys. Once the bus starts, the thief comes out of his bag and probes the luggage in the bus, and steals the valuables and goes back and zips inside his bag. Once the bus reaches the destination the con man picks up his suit case and walks away with his partner in the suit case and his loot. Any other passenger will pick their luggage only to find out later that something is missing. So the advice here is Even if you have a carry on bag, be sure to keep those valuables out of them if you put them in the bus luggage compartment. Take the valuables and keep them with you during these bus rides. Thank you.
  • I love your honesty about your travel experiences. And thank you for showing us the difference between real and fake bank notes.
  • @evergreen408
You should have taken the fake note back to the exchange place. Regardless if you had kept the receipt or not. Exchange offices are licensed businesses. They cannot just scam customers. They will be shut down. You can still make a police report.

OLGA YOU CAN WALK INTO MAIN BANK AND ASK FOR A BANK NOTE SPECIMEN PAMPHLET. THAT CAN HELP YOU CHECK AGAINST FAKES. GREAT VIDEO
  • @tommytee8387
Always check bank notes before you leave the Money exchange..once you leave it’s too late to complain as the Note could have come from anywhere…

Wow...what a shocker on the fake 100 tl bill. I just exchanged a $100 bill too today in Istanbul and just ran and checked them. Fortunately they looked and felt authentic. sorry for your experience. On Airbnb, I also have experienced misleading photos of the interior of the apartments showing them extra big and roomy while when you get there, it is far from it. I have warned Airbnb to ban the use of wide-angle cameras that simply lie about the size of the apartment. Thanks for the informative video.
  • Buenísimo el video,me estoy preparando para ir aEstambul es uno de los viajes que tengo pendiente.👍🇦🇷👋🇦🇷👋

Hi Olga, i m very sorry about fake banknot, did you get back to exchange office and told this ? In such cases, please save the receipt always and you can claim your money. Unfortunately, such things happens in Turkey especially in big cities..
  • @user-yp9vr2gm7e
A friend of mine was scammed out of €150 by rogue sellers under the Eifel tower in Paris. Unfortunately, such events can happen to you in any tourist city. We have to be vigilant.
  • First view, thanks for sharing your video. 🙏👍👳‍♂️🇬🇧

Hello Olga Pro. Going places, can you do a video about the Sim card situation on the phones?? What happens for people who arrive in Turkey with a foreign phone, i heard that they will block your phone after a few weeks?
  • @hurguler
I had a similar experience once and I was given fake US dollars at the Exchange Shop. When they told me at the bank it was fake, I went back to the Exchange Shop and they took it without questioning me. Even if you don't have a receipt these Exchange Shops should know better.
  • @dinasun3
That is good to know. I have a bunch of Turkish currency here in the US from left over visit to Istanbul and will check them.
