It seems kind of insane that it's Disney's 100th year, and they didn't celebrate with a big budget Mickey Mouse movie.

Your pitches reminded me of Pixar’s history in a nutshell: “What is toys had feelings?” “What if bugs had feelings?” “What if fish had feelings?” “What if cars had feelings?” “What if feelings had feelings?”

The fact that people actually FORGOT this film was even out really says a lot about Disney’s current state.

I think Disney needs to take a year off with everything. People are so overwhelmed by the amount of mediocre content thats been coming out that they really need to take a step back and reassess. I feel like ive been going through Disney fatigue for a few years now and this year didn't help. People are more conscious of their money and don't want to waste time or money on sub-par content.
  • I feel like this movie had so much more potential that the writers didn't even know it had

Wish is the perfect example of targeting only one type of audience. As a wise man once said, “A children’s story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children’s story in the slightest.” -C.S. Lewis

Disney should have done a Roger Rabbit. You can have all animated and real life movies smashed together in a magic kingdom and have a good and fun story that stands on it's own.

The only things for disney's 100th anniversary I genuinely loved are Steamboat Silly and Once Upon A Studio, at least the shorts department is doing good creative-wise this year
  • The idea of making the king thinking is a good person because he is protecting the realm from dangerous wishes but in reality he has become a dictator could have been great. But it's modern Disney: let's avoid to challenge too much the audience.

The recent Disney movies seem lacking something authentic. Sort of paint by numbers scripts that check boxes, designed by committee. Over reliance on subverting expectations. Turning left instead of right is not an original story.

The fact Trolls Band together came out 1 week before Wish, but still made more this weekend, as well as costing $100m less to make shows how bad Wish is doing at the box office. Trolls could end up with a box office total double of Wish when it is all said and done
  • Jennifer Lee's poor scriptwriting strikes again. But this time, she doesn't have a billion dollars to back it up.

Dan, you're popular enough now to attract the crypto bots simulating conversations instead of just spamming telegram phishing links. You've hit the big leagues, dude.

I agree the 100th year movie should have been a movie starring all the Princesses from Ralph 2 or BETTER yet give us a Mickey Mouse movie

Disney has just completely forgotten about the saying ”quality over quantity.” Did you know that the writers at Disney were once given 6 whole months to write out a story? Why have film companies just completely forgotten about that it doesn’t matter how long it takes to make film, all that matters is that the film turns out good! If a movie is good, it’s likely that people are gonna watch it! Many people today don’t care as much anymore about deadlines, THEY JUST WANNA SEE A GOOD MOVIE!! Plus it gets people all the more hyped up when the movie does eventually come out! The only way Disney can save themselves now is if they just stop, take a step back, and reevaluate everything and start fresh. Because what they’ve been doing is getting exhausting to watch.
  • It’s so frustrating that Disney refuses any chance to be creative. They own so many IPs, with access to infinite possibilities, and the means to produce them , yet they think the audience memebers are all dummies who want to eat the same slop again and again.

A princess film where all of them team up to stop their villains and save their princes, while singing some of their iconic songs. How do they meet up when they are from different time periods? I honestly don’t know yet.

It’s disappointing that this is supposed to be the big 100th anniversary celebration of Disney.

Another excellent review, Dan. It's too bad Disney couldn't pull this one off. I thought it had some promise when I first heard about it, but the gap between idea and execution seems to have been too vast.
