  • I started Tiny Tim’s. Early girl tomatoes. Basil. Beefsteak tomatoes. Sun gold cherry tomatoes. Oregano. Parsley. Cucumbers. Hoping for the best.
  • @dreed1058
Just want to support CaliKim's seeds - I've been purchasing her seeds for a few years, and have had GREAT success, even w/o the tips! I only grow a few veggies (tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelon & peppers), but I LOVE her flower seeds!! She always has specials, and very good germination %. Best to everyone's green thumb😂❤!!
  • I'm growing Romas, my favorite tomato, some bell peppers, garlic, lettuces, green beans, plus marigolds, zinnias, nasturtiums and a few parsley/basil for pest control....who knows what else I'll plant lol
  • I’m planting more lettuce. I just can’t seem to keep enough growing! I’m also planting some celery I rooted from scraps.
  • Awesome, I just found you! Great information here. I've been reading Lisa Ziegler's "Cool Flowers" to learn more. I don't really plant veggies, I'm more into cut flowers. But this information was spot on with what Lisa stated. Thank you for sharing!
  • I had success with Watercress seeds sprinkled over expanded clay pebbles in a 3 inch net cup in a Folgers Instant container filled with nutrient solution under a 10w light. Four of these fit under one bulb. They don`t have Watercress in stores here in rural Louisiana so I had never tried it. It`s a new MUST GROW now for me. I`ve transplanted cuttings to keep it going. It`s a super food.
  • Kim I recently moved to Henderson Nevada. Now I'm not sure if you know this area. There is literally physically zero soil where I live. It's one big sand box with Bermuda grass that grows sporadically. For the most part I've got nothing starting out. I am into permaculture and live soil and regenerative practices. I signed up for Chip Drop. I got a load of wood chips and just down the street from me is a saddle club. They gave me all the horse manure I can haul for free. I mixed those two ingredients plus cardboard and kitchen scraps in one huge pile to compost. Because they use chlorine and chloromine in the tap water I couldn't use it on my compost. I had to haul water in from the lake because even though it wasn't my best choice it was better than applying a microbial killer to my compost pile. I plan on container gardening this year. Until I have some good thick deep beds to start gardening in it's going to have to work. So how did you start out from the beginning and would you suggest to me anything different that I can do or should be doing any different than what I've done already. My goal is to build the non existent soil into beautiful healthy live soil. I do worry about soil being black because the heat and sunlight is so intense here. I think I can find a cover for shade or something that will work. I lived in South Dakota before moving and this new land is very foreign to me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My last frost date is April 17😭 Can’t really get started until Mid February. That’s when I’ll start my peppers and tomatoes. I’m really starting to get concerned because the past few years, we’ve barely had sunny days in May and June.
  • @pearlbrown177
Great video! What about light when they go outdoors? I want to use a greenhouse. I'm seeding collards, cabbage peppers and some herbs in zone 5b. And lastly what kind of mixing tray were you using in another video with the top to keep soil you mixed?
  • 9b in SoCal, have lettuce and peas growing right now. Started peppers and tomatoes this week. too early for melons and cucumbers but can never get cucumbers in after soil is warm enough but early enough to produce before our 100+ degree heat hits in June. Also direct sowed some swiss chard and cilantro for the 1st time, we'll see how that goes.
  • Starting brassicas this week. I may try a pepper or two. Trying not to overwhelm myself.
  • I need to start some lettuce and leeks. Last frost date is usually mid April.
  • I am starting my flower seeds next mouth Indoors Kim when counting back to know when to start your seeds are you supposed to pay attention to what it says on the back of your seed packet or do you pay attention to your frost date to know when to start your seeds
  • @Moon..Shadow
If I start my plants inside, prior to my frost date, it's not warm enough outdoors, especially at night. When do I start my seeds?? I'm so confused.
  • @copperkid7
I started carrot seeds about two weeks ago. they are just now germinating. I started radish seeds about four days ago and they are starting to germinate now. I also planted nasturtium seeds a week ago.
  • Is there an alternative to a heat mat for the plants that need the warmth? I'm starting (attempting) seeds for broccoli, celery, bell peppers, squash, zucchini, ornamental pumpkins, sugar snaps and sugar babies. I had a partially successful small garden last year using plants but thought I would try seeds this year. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. 😕
