China's latest breakthrough in electric vehicle technology is transforming how we think about batteries, focusing on next-generation innovations that promise substantial improvements in energy density, charging speed, and lifespan. This advancement tackles some of the most pressing challenges in the EV industry today, like range anxiety, charging infrastructure, and overall battery performance.

One standout feature of these new batteries is their significantly increased energy density. Traditional lithium-ion batteries have limitations on how much energy they can store. However, China’s new batteries use advanced materials and innovative designs to boost energy density by up to 50%. This means electric vehicles can now travel up to 1,000 kilometers (about 620 miles) on a single charge—double the current average range of around 500 kilometers (310 miles).

Charging time is another critical factor for EV adoption, and this new technology makes significant strides here as well. The advanced batteries can reach an 80% charge in just 15 minutes, thanks to cutting-edge charging techniques and improved chemical compositions. This is a substantial improvement over current batteries, which typically require 30 to 45 minutes for the same level of charge. It's expected to address one of the main concerns for potential EV buyers—long wait times at charging stations.

Battery longevity has also been a persistent issue, and China’s latest advancement promises a solution. The new technology offers a lifespan of over 2,000 charging cycles, equivalent to around 10 years of use for the average driver. This not only reduces the overall cost of owning an EV but also addresses environmental concerns related to battery disposal and recycling.

These breakthroughs mark a significant step forward in making electric vehicles more practical, efficient, and environmentally friendly, paving the way for a future where EVs play an even larger role in sustainable transportation. Contemporary Amperex Technology Company Ltd (CATL), based in Ningde, China, unveiled its new Shenxing Plus lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery at Auto China 2024 in Beijing. This new battery is a game-changer in the EV world.

CATL, the world’s largest EV battery manufacturer, introduced the Shenxing Plus battery, claiming it’s the first LFP battery to achieve a range of over 1,000 km (620 miles) with 4C superfast charging. A quick 10-minute charge provides enough power to cover 600 km (400 miles), making it ideal for both daily commuting and long-distance travel.

The Company highlighted that the Shenxing Plus can power an EV for over 1,000 km on a single charge. For context, that's like driving from Guangzhou to Wuhan or from London to Berlin. Even a short 10-minute charge can cover 600 km, equating to one kilometre per second of charging. Launched just eight months after the first Shenxing superfast charging LFP battery, the Shenxing Plus continues to push the boundaries of battery technology. It incorporates fast lithium-ion conductive coating, transition metal elements, and new nanometre encapsulation for smoother energy transmission. Improved terminal design rapidly dissipates heat during high-current charging, and an AI-based polarisation model predicts and controls the charging current in real time.

CATL introduced several innovative products, including- The TENER Containerized Energy Storage System (ESS) which is essentially a large-scale battery system, used for storing and managing energy. No Degradation for Five Years: The system doesn’t lose any capacity for the first five years, meaning it stays as efficient as when it was first installed. It can also store up to 6.25 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy in a container that's 20 feet long.

China will lead the World in renewable energies !!!
  • Chinese advance is evs is decade ahead of germany, japan and usa. India is 50 years behind .
  • Tariffs and Protectionism will stop innovation and affordability for consumers. Prices on new energy vehicles must come down, making the move to clean transportation faster.

They say there is a global boycott of chinese EVs.

The problem with all these "innovations" is that they a long time to come to market: meanwhile all we have is the present generation of older batteries that have the same problems as we are currently having. I'll believe it when I see it.
  • The problem is that even with these advances the game is not going anywhere because in most countries following the IOCC Net Zero madness there is not the electricity available at an economic cost to charge them because even if renewable resources were adequate and not intermittent National and Local power grids cannot cope with the needed load when the fleet is switched to EVs and the money and raw materials to fix them are not available. So at best EVs will be restricted to the wealthy elites with everyone else back on public transport but with competition for power from crypto, tokenization, industrial and domestic use they will be small in numbers. China is only able to expand its EV ownership by obtaining power from coal, oil and gas with only a minor amount from renewables and the same for other BRICS countries and those in the global South thouth grid restrictions still apply.

Are the figures given by this Chinese company for the capacity of the battery alone? What are the figures when you put the battery inside a car and add passengers or cargo?
  • @mauricio-wq5lu
Will these type of batteries also be used for passenger carrying electric aircraft or maritime use?
