Apparently, Godzilla is Public Domain Now

Something I’ve always said about the Godzilla fandom, is that when left to their own devices, they decide into factions and start World War G, but when an external threat is introduced, the entire fandom comes together to Atomic blast that threat back into the Kingdom of Lord Blundergosh from whence it came.

As great as Godzilla Minus One is, the one bad thing to come out of that movie is that it did brought in a lot of annoying film snobs that act like they know Godzilla better than most fans and act like that Godzilla HAS to be only be serious all the time.

The line that took me out from that video was “Godzilla is so popular most people don’t even know he’s originally from Japan” Just There’s so many layers to that line. Absolutely terrible. Bravo.

That video did one good thing I brought the Godzilla fandom together, like never before, in hating it

If Godzilla was part of the public domain, trust me, there will be countless films being made by now. But they’re all prefer of other monsters that are in the public domain like Cthulhu, that you can make movies about as well as gigantic fire monster.

Another video that criticizing kaiju films made by someone who flat out doesn’t care for the genre, these people sure do love coming around whenever Godzilla isn’t ‘dark and gritty’

I love Minus One. I’m just annoyed with how many fans are saying we should do away with the Monsterverse because of it. Like or hate the MV…getting rid of it is a dumb idea. Even for Toho.

At one time, there was that thought of "Godzilla vs. Megalon" being public domain. If anyone remembers the many different VHS versions of that movie (one even included a packet of popcorn!). As soon as Toho became aware of that, they immediately put a stop to it!

Godzilla was never in the public domain. There's been numerous studios and companies who have gotten sued by Toho for illegally using their pet dinosaur without their permission. 🦖

In all seriousness though... That figure lineup is (Chef's Kiss) definitely on point.

You could not have explain it any better way. The moment I heard he said that Godzilla is in the public domain, even I know for a fact that his video is not even worth my time. But for what's worth, watching videos of other people criticizing his analysis video is worth my time.

God, Doktor Skipper’s take was so damn awful. He clearly doesn’t have a lot of knowledge of the Godzilla franchise. If any.

Look, I love Minus One, I now consider it to be one of personal favorite Goji films, and I'm happy so many people that are fans and nonfans coming in to see the film, however, one unfortunate consequence is that Minus One now has a similar problem with Evangelion. By that I mean they're both beloved and critically acclaimed works, but this leads new people to come in and say that they are the some of, if not the only, "good" entrys in their respective genres and then they just ignore everything else. With Minus One it's the rest of the Godzilla franchise (maybe even kaiju films as a whole) and with Eva it's the rest of anime industry, especially, other mecha anime series/films.

We all know Godzilla Minus One was an amazing movie, but that doesn’t mean the Monsterverse and Showa films are bad. They’re just targeted for another audience, mainly younger people and people who prefer monster fighting. Each Godzilla movie has its own charm and imperfections, and not all are meant for the same audience.

Wow! Doktor Skipper’s amount of research into the Godzilla franchise really astounded me! If Godzilla is in the public domain (in America), then can we please get Godzilla Heritage and Godzilla vs the Wolfman released to the public?

I don't normally gatekeep, really, I don't. But, in this case I am MORE than happy to make an exception. Because, wow. I mean... WOW. How does someone like Doktor Skipper screw up researching this badly?

This guy said a lot of stuff you could just chalk up to normal "Grounded Godzilla" rhetoric, but when he said this I almost fell out of my chair.

I absolutely love the sudden "oh no", it's like he just had his last 5 brain neurons on the backburner and then they all just piece together what he said.
