Leomon surviving was one of the best things I witnessed that year. It honestly put a little smile on my face.

I like the original Digimon because of the character and story development! I felt more emotionally attached to the original series than I did with the reboot because the reboot felt so fast paced. I love the reboot because of the battles, mega, and art styles but it didn’t have that emotional impact like the original. In the 1999 version, I literally cried when the Digimon said by to the kids in the parting train.

Leomon is like Sean Bean, if he lives until the end of the show, it's a miracle.
  • I liked the addition of everyone getting a mega. It often gets annoying in anime when there are 1 or 2 central characters that get the spotlight and the power ups, leaving the rest of the team to be basically cannon fodder.

I think the reason the character is lacking is due to the constant change of directors. Im sure you realise there's a clear fluctuation with episode qualities too. I'm not talking about graphics quality. I'm talking about the pacing quality and how fillerish an episode can get. In 1999, the characters were naive children slowly growing into better versions of themselves. Each time a character gets a significant character improvement, it is reflected through their resolve and thus enables evolution of their digimon partners. Thus in a way, they "earned" their upgrades. In 2020 however, the characters were presented as already being the best version of themselves, the evolutions are usually preceded by fillerish fights with minimal character development. The reason why 1999 character clicks is that the viewers of that era can generally connect with the internal issues faced by the digi destinied. On the other hand, 2020 presented the digi destinied like an stereotypical isekai "hero" that got summoned to an alternate world and are grunted with powerful abilities to save that world. The heroes instantly knew their roles and responsibilities which can kinda turn some fights boring without apparent goals other than to level up. In 1999, they digi destinied didn't really discover their "destiny " till around half way through the season. in a way. Adventure 2020 feels like a school holiday trip in the digital world. Whereas 1999 feels like a unexpected journey of self-discovery. In a lot of ways, I feel that 2020 lack of consistency is a by product of covid 19. It would have been alot better if they have just one single director directing the series. As for the episodes, I think it can be divided into two broad categories. Squeezing too much content into a single episode vs too little substance unnecessary episodes. Example of too much things is the episode vs millenniumon. Millenniumon is supposed to be this all powerful uber evil god. But due to pacing. His forms were literally 1 or 2 shot-ted by the MCs within a single episode. That story could flow better if it was divided into 2 to 3 episodes with introduction of the digimon forms and backstory as well as interactions between digi destinied . The way those episodes played are as if they assume all viewers know who millenniumon is supposed to be. Then again , its because we know who he is that we feel that those episodes did not do him justices. On the other hand . The episodes that lacks substance are basically all the episodes with little character development and random plots that serves no real purpose other than being a break from all the fighting. Those episodes could have been better utilized to introduce somemore back stories of certain digimons. For example, rather than showing us blitz greymon. We can have back story that implies the existence of alternate evolutions with legends and history. Basically set up episodes that gives the actual episodes later a better feeling of satisfaction.

Honorable mention. Lopmon should have gotten a partner. HUGE missed opportunity to expand on the lore of the holy digimon

I am really impressed and had no idea there was a reboot! Digimon was the ultimate guilty pleasure for me as I was 12 years old when Digimon launched on the scene. The OG show did a wonderful job making you feel empathy for the characters and especially for their digimon. However I can confidently say I do not have a desire to revisit this era of TV again, and am happy with what you showed us today to bring closure to the series for me personally. The show targets such a young audience it would not be the same type of show if it catered to my now adult sensibilities and I think that would be disservice to the series. I am excited and hope it brings a new generation of fans and maybe they go back and watch the original and like that as well.

One thing I appreciated the most is seeing moments where Joe, Koshiro and even Takeru have moments of being fierce/strong willed in their big moments in the series compared to how I remember them in the 01 series. I still love watching Koshiro's moment in episode 36 to this day.
  • Everytime you hear "Wahoo" from Komondomon puts a smile in my face. I kinda hope the next series will explore biomerge evolution like tamers again for some of those humanoid mega forms( Last Evolution kinda missed the opportunity with the Kizuna forms, what stronger bonds could it be other than actually fighting together as one) I really like how 2020 Digidestined actually have more active roles in combat but sometimes them being on the digimon all the time can get a bit ridiculous, like how they don't get burned and stuff or suffer from g-force for some fast flying moves lol
  • Digimon has been a staple of fun shows in my life. My 9 year old loves the '99 digimon show, we binge watch it everytime I am home. He hasn't seen the 2020 reboot because he can't read fast enough to keep up with the story, but once the English dub gets released, you bet we gonna spend days watching it. Love how many mediums this series has gotten, and it allows us to follow the digital world in card games, video games, and with the vital bracelet. Awesome video my dude! Long love the digital world!

Digimon Adventure (2020) was just so much fun. The fights were truly great, some comedy scenes were really funny and best of all, Leomon finally survived against all odds!

The original 1999 story just can't be beat. But, I really enjoyed the 2020 version as well. What I really liked was the fact that Joe(who was my least favorite in the 1999 version) made episode 60(The Vikemon debut) made me like Joe so much more than the 1999 story. I still love episode 60 to this day. And Mimi, she's my favorite from this reboot in 2020 by far.

This series might struggle to stand on its own as a different timeline, mainly with story, development and pacing. But because i know these characters already, i looked at the reboot as just more adventures. I think that's why I've been very quick to like this reboot because i can take everything that was already established before and just add on nice animations, music, and new ideas instead of repeating things i know to create a complete package for these characters. (especially with characters like taichi, mimi and all the digimon partners) For example, i know koshiro's story with his parents from the original, and them just hinting at it and developing him a different way this time kept it fresh and interesting instead of repeating the story to me again. This came at a cost as a standalone show, but I think it works after considering both series. Hope this made sense lol
  • @ashdust9832
komondomon is objectively the best addition from the reboot no I'm not bias, it's just facts

I like how Goddramon was introduced alongside Magnadramon. I used to not like Magnadramon cause Ophanimon existed and to me it makes sense to have Seraphimon with Ophanimon. In this case it feels right to have Patamon and Gatomon have alternate "Holy Dragon" forms. Goddramon feels right as a Patamon alternate Mega and Goddramon and Magnadramon really show their stuff during the Milleniummon fight. Plus like you said before, we get to have our Magnadramon and Ophanimon cake.
  • @guipa__
I knew number 1 was gonna be huge but you definitely caught me by surprise with Leomon surviving being the biggest change
  • @tensai_kodai
I really hope they do more with this timeline! I loved seeing the gigantic megs 😍 and OPHANIMON
