  • MM and SS weren't thinking about who could kill each other, they were thinking about why would they kill each other. And it fits perfectly for these two. Excellent episode.
  • Silver Surfer shedding a tear as he comes to terms with the inevitability that one of them has to die without knowing or understanding why really speaks volumes of his character and who he is
  • @TheZombie567
Its crazy how Martian Man is always sidelined on the Justice space station when he's literally second to Superman
  • "Victory comes with no certain satisfaction. I may never know why we were made to fight. If violence is ever truly justified, but perhaps there is something... Worthy in the battle. Something beyond my understanding..." That was legitimately one of the most beautiful monologues in the show.
  • The ending. It feels like they are aware of the rules of Death Battle. That regardless of if they want to or not, they HAVE to fight to the death and they can't do a thing to stop it. I think its the first time a character has become aware of the function of the show without it being used for comedy, and I'm a huge fan of it.

I like how people started off as, "this is just another Marvel vs DC," but little did we know...how powerful of a message and aftertaste this left in all of us.
  • @Aramasa-Ryu
The truly sad thing about this fight is that MM and SS could be very good friends. I can imagine the two of them, philosophizing about the vast universe around them and the meaning behind everything.

What I love about the last few seasons of Death Battle is that instead of focusing on just making the battles longer or flashier or with better graphics, they're focusing on making the combatants true to both the characterization and the themes of their source material, and finding the areas of common ground between the two to compare their similarities and contrast their differences. It feels like the series has become so much more mature, while staying true to its colorful, flamboyant and action-packed roots.

These two would absolutely be best friends if they actually met. They are both people who have been through hell, repeatedly, and never stopped being incredibly good people.

Genuinely a heartbreaking ending. Haven’t felt this bad since Johnathan vs Tanjiro

3:56 Boomstick's frustration at failing to say Mister Mxyzptlk's name is the most relatable and hilarious thing

I love how y'all show just how much of an abstract battle this would be. It wouldn't just be two strong as hell dudes going at it. It would be two beings we really don't fully understand doing a kind of battle that no one would ever really comprehend.

Been a fan of Silver Surfer since I was a kid, and getting to voice him was truly an honor. Thanks RT!!! pg

This was perhaps the most existential Death Battle ever. Not only did they both acknowledge that they were being forced to fight and ponder why, they're both near infinitely powerful beings with great cosmic and philosophical knowledge who had lost their entire civilization. It was going to be a bitter victory no matter who won. And it was a total love letter to these characters. Amazing job.
  • I appreciate how they depicted both characters here with respect to their character's values. I don't think either would enjoy having to fight each other and there would be level of mutual respect between the both of them. I like how SS shed a tear before having to destroy MM as well as it was not something his character would want or typically do.

This is the first serious Death Battle where the characters are actually aware of the cosmic rules being unwillingly placed on them by the outside force that is the show. It's been acknowledged in the series before, but... that was in Deadpool episodes, not exactly meant to be philosophical or existential.
  • @belakthrillby
"I hope you can live with the uncertainty" was such a good line. Even as he knows he's about to be destroyed, MM has kind words for the Surfer. I want to read a story of these two working together and becoming friends.
  • The ending was both sad and shocking. Sad because of how emotional it was and shocking cause two non-fourth wall breakers practically seemed like they were actually aware that they were forced to fight to the death but didn’t know why.

The voice acting in this was incredible. When SS hit MM with the beam that would ultimately kill him, you could really feel the pain in MM's voice. And the somber acceptance that MM would not win, and then choosing to leave SS with kind words despite knowing that with him, the martians die out for good, was such a chilling conclusion. This has to be one of my favorite battles of all time, if only for that final dialogue they had within the heart of the star.
