Obstetrician Gynecologist and humor enthusiast Dr. Danielle Jones (yes, I'm writing this about myself, stop judging me) discusses fact or myth questions submitted from Instagram followers.

In this episode we discuss whether elective induction of labor at 39 weeks increases your risk of a c-section, pooping while you're giving birth, IUD failure and uterine shape, and is going au naturale for delivery totally worth it?

We also discuss the most comment personal critique I get about these videos, my love of Philip DeFranco (youtube.com/channel/UClFSU9_bUb4Rc6OYfTt5SPw), and my badass/sarcastic/scientific shirt I purchased from his merch shop.

  • Hi 2023 crew - Omg why is this the best intro I’ve ever done?! 😂
  • Also can we stop treating people who have medications or C sections like they're "not real Moms". It's super scummy and disrespectful. Edit: Wow, thanks for the likes. I bring this up because my Mother's first pregnancy was at 32 and with my twin sisters. My one sister was breech and one was being strangled with the umbilical cord. One would not be here today without a c-section. The twins are 34 now and joke with each other "I should have done you in when I had the chance!" Edit edit: Wow my first 1K likes, thanks everyone!

As a fast talker I did not even realize she was talking fast and processed at what felt like a perfectly normal speed to me lol
  • While I didn't poop, it was the first thing my daughter did, right on my chest.
  • The idea that pooping during labor is a sign that you're a good pusher is the best thing I've ever heard. You just turned the source of a deep seated pregnancy anxiety into a potential point of pride. What had been looming over me as a deeply shameful eventually is now the source of a humble brag: "Yeah, I pooped on the table, it's because I'm great at pushing." Thank you.

I’m watching this while in labor!! Never too late to learn lol.

Me: a 17 year old who isn’t planning on getting married/having kids for at least 5 years Also me: loves watching vids on pregnancy and labor
  • A friend of mine wanted a natural birth because "that's what real moms do" and she didn't get along without the anesthesia but fought until the last second against it. Her midwife told her "it's not a competition. Having anesthesia doesn't make you a bad or less of a mother." This really helped her and she agreed to the meds. She told me her second birth was way more chill because she got the anesthesia first chance.
  • I work in OBGYN. We had a pregnant pt with an IUD. The baby was holding it like a pogo stick. Lol. We still have the ultra sound picture and have saved it.

I pooped during my second delivery. My husband says they quickly whisked it away and it wasn't a thing. I'm mostly traumatized that my husband saw me poop.

One time I saw an interview with a doctor and said: The only way would be unnatural if the baby comes out from your mouth! Any other form or with drug no drugs, c section, meditation, dancing, Etc all of them are natural, So you can chose whatever works for you! and they all are natural!

I’ve been dating my boyfriend for 3 years. In the back of my head I’ve always thought about babies & labor and thinking about how I would be embarrassed if I pooped. 2 months ago, he got a concussion, and the meds made him 💩 his brains out - I had to help him when he 💩 his pants twice. I am no longer going to be embarrassed.
  • Thank you for correcting/saying “non medicated birth.” Growing and birthing a baby is natural regardless of the use of pain meds. I hate when people say “natural birth” when the talk about no pain meds. I’ve had all three: medicated, unmedicated, and cesarean.
  • @Spiritwingz56
I actually like it when YouTubers talk a bit faster. I typically have to watch on a faster speed since I can't handle people taking really slow. XD
  • @BeezieBoom
To anyone who has never had a baby: the LAST thing you are thinking about while pushing... is whether or not you poop 😂 your brain is so focused and in so much pain, pooping is not on your mind
  • @pebble1181
“A few of you told me I talk to fast” Me, watching every video at 2x speed: amateurs...
  • @crystaldmb41
I was 41+2 weeks, and was induced. After 20 hours of induced labor, and a BP of 78/40, I had an emergency c-section. I had zero complications during pregnancy. My son just wanted to stay in until college.
  • @teeruh12
Can you do a video talking about post partum depression? Who's at risk, why it happens, how to treat, etc?
  • @zaraheart
I pooped while pushing my son out and proud of it! I asked my mom, she was like “yup sure did” my response “nice, won’t have to poop later” 🤷‍♀️ The Doctor wiped it away and carried on, Everyone poops.
  • Had my little girl without medicine. Used the 'push like a maniac when they told me to and cussed at every person in the room with me' method. Worked well, she made it out great.
