My tip is to always check the armpits for subtle stains or holes!
  • Another tip. Make sure everyone at home knows you're going to be gone for quite awhile. Nothing worse than being rushed while thrifting.

My best find was at my local Salvation Army I found a small canteen shaped purse that I fell in love with; I bought it for $3.99 since it was half off day and when I got home I realized it was brand new so I googled the brand name “Etienne Aigner” and realized it’s a $230 purse I couldn’t believe it....sometimes the thrift stores don’t know what they have 😂

The joy of thrift stores: IT'S THE HUNT! My best find was a 25 cent book at a library sale - it was a yearbook from the US Army's Cavalry School (at Ft. Riley, Kansas) from the year that then-Major George Patton attended the school. It included an essay by MAJ Patton. It made the very best present I ever gave to my brother - a US Army Armored Cavalry officer.
  • i went to s goodwill and got a leather jacket that was originally like 100$ for 6$

Great tips! One thing I always do is hold the clothing to the light and check for moth holes!

many of my clothes and shoes that usually catch my friends' attention are the ones from the thrift shop. it's really a good feeling not mainly because i'm being complimented, but because digging through the items in the store and getting them for an affordable price are pure heaven. ♥

thrift used to be good for me, I have an extensive collection of vintage dresses, however, during the past year or year and a half I notice that they're pricing the items really high, local shops, goodwill, salvation, anywhere..... and tip #33, it's a lesson hard learned, when buying clothes don't take them straight home, even if you spend a little extra time and money, take them to the dry cleaners or the washateria, cloth moths can hide very very well even if you think it's clean, the getting rid of those suckers and the damage they can cause to your other items is not worth it

I found a vintage 70s wedding dress in perfect condition. The lace on the bodice was stunning and the small train was all set for bustling too. What was most amazing was that it fit me like a glove and even my height. $25 for it. I never wore it, I just like looking at it

Also, some big name stores donate to thrift stores. Our target donates items that don't sale to our goodwill. That includes anything from furniture to baby wipes.
  • My friend bought a 53 piece China set for 25. I later googled the sets design name and turns out her set it worth about 400 dollars!

These are all amazing tips! I absolutely love thrifiting! I'm in the Portland, Oregon area and do well with mostly Goodwill here. I seriously can't imagine paying full price and shopping at retail stores!
