Dana Dan is a graphic commentary on sexual assault and the need to eliminate it. It begins with the reflexive, almost homicidal rage we feel when we hear about these crimes, before moving on to a more level headed call to arms. It culminates in a gentle appeal for all of us to reflect on the role we play in creating a world where atrocities of this nature are committed and to work towards eliminating it altogether.

  • As a man who was assaulted sexually, I really appreciate that the victims are gender neutral. I felt included in a way I don't always get to in these conversations and with how powerful this song was, it felt like a pretty bad ass thing to be included in.

"I put a fist through the face of a rapist and yeah, I tape this, for the viewing pleasure of the nameless faces he disgraces." Best opening line in music history.
  • Really annoyed at all the people misinterpreting the "yes all men" lyric. No, all men aren't rapists, but we NEED all men to be aware of sexual abuse and how to stop it to be able to reduce the rates. They literally said "we need all men for what we're solving." It's not enough to say "well I'm not a rapist" and call it a day because you've done your part. You need to be actively taking action against abuse. Walk your friends home, watch your language and mindset towards women, take no for an answer, call out that one friend who's just "like that," I know a lot of you have a friend who's kind of a creep but is chill with you, and if you don't confront him about it you don't know what he's gonna do behind your back. Misinterpreting this line in order to dismiss it is lazy and disgraceful. We're not saying you're a rapist, we're saying we need you to participate in solving this problem.

THIS WAS IN THE CLIMAX OF MONKEY MAN, I HYPED IN THE THEATER WHEN THE DRUMS AT THE START KICKED IN LIKE "WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY'RE PLAYING DANA DAN OVER THIS FIGHT SCENE"

There was an Indian woman in the comments saying she cried the first time hearing this... it's like my 20th time and I still tear up. Being a near victim of trafficking and later abuse as a child... a freakish Japanese red headed green eyed girl... I was an exotic prize for monsters and blamed my entire life for it. This was in America by the way. So any ignorant people need to realize this happens everywhere. Right in front of your faces. Because you let it happen. Now that I am older and I broke free, nearly dying to free my three sisters who were lucky not to be abducted but in a bad situation also... it feels so... freeing to hear that there are men that actually understand the pain and want to help... you can hear the rage and anger in their voices. You can feel that this is personal from the dancers. I hope that rage will fill you all with courage to rise up when things like this happen. The cycle stops with you.

“Not all men. Yes all men, need all men for what we’re solving.” This line! This line all day!!!
  • @isisangeli6259
This is the best thing YT randomly recommended me in years
  • I was sexually abused by a jehovah’s witness elder starting from the time I was 4 years old. thank you so much for making this, it made me cry. the chorus especially touched me “watch as an apparent saint becomes a monster behind the curtains” you guys are doing amazing work, please keep it up!

this is EXACTLY what metal is for; sticking up for our fellow people against terrible people doing horrible shit in order to bring on a better world. fantastic song.
  • @Bimmer_MD
Damn, "fuck every man for himself, it's every man for every man", this is exactly the train of thought that the people of today's world need to have. Having the dancers do that hardcore step and headbang was a perfect touch too.
  • @carriebounds29
"yes all men" from the mouth of a man. Thank you for having open eyes and awareness!
  • “Need all men for what we’re solving” is an amazing thing to hear
  • @JohanaPage

I'm not Indian, but I resonate with a lot of these lyrics. I was groped by a man in a mall, in front of my mother, who later denied what had happened to my face. Later in my life I was almost the victim of an attempted rape, by my boyfriend. Victims of rape should no longer be nameless, faceless numbers. We are no longer asking for recognition. We are ordering it.
  • I love everything about this. Kali is creation, destruction, chaos, order, wrath, and compassion. If you liked this song, I highly recommend The Song of Women by The Hu (a Mongolian metal band) that is in a similar theme. Izzy Hale from Halestorm features in one version where she sings the English translation if you're curious 🤟🏻
  • As a Delhiite, I am so proud of these boys being fellow Delhiites. There's so much evil in our city, especially against girls and women. It makes me feel happy to know that there are boys like them who would stand up for us with us.
  • @Nparalelo
This is the most aggresive "respect women" I've ever heard and I love it

Scandinavian here, playlists full of soft voices and melodies - love haunting kind of sad songs - quiet songs like musical poetry. I want my music to say all of the things I feel and have no words for in a pretty and soulful way. Something I can whisper along with and still feel understood. That being said, I fucking love this song. I don't know the words and the culture is foreign, but the rage - the message. It's in my bones.

I saw Monkey Man today and nearly lost it when this came on during one of the biggest fights. I just started banging my head in the theatre while trying to watch the film. Loads of people are talking about the music in that scene online and don't know this is the song. Googling the soundtrack doesn't mention it, or any of the other licensed songs (just the original compositions for the soundtrack). Amazing song, and perfect choice for the scene, where the Dev Patel character and his transgender women allies annihilate a bunch of pimps, gangsters and corrupt cops- i.e. all abusers of women. !..!,
