Ann Lowe designed Jacqueline Kennedy's wedding dress, but her name was never mentioned in the society pages that gushed over the event. Lowe also designed dresses for major stars and helped shape American couture. Now, a new exhibit is working to make sure her impact is properly remembered. Michelle Miller reports.

  • That’s my grandmother 😮 I’m so glad there’s finally recognition for this. Nana used to tell stories about Anne lowe all of the time.

I am so glad CBS Mornings profiled this designer. I would never have heard of her, until this.

Her daughter must be so proud, her mom was clearly ‘ahead of her time’. Incredible history.
  • She deserved this recognition for her impeccable work. I admired her skills and simple yet elegant aesthetics.
  • You can really see the historical influences on so many of her dresses - many of them almost look like they could have been worn in early parts of the 20th century, or in various parts of the 19th century. She had a real knack for taking old styles, yet making them modern - which is not always easy to do. Women must have felt like princesses in her gowns (and I’m sure some were actually princesses). What a talent and visionary. It’s great that her story is finally being told.

The gowns are gorgeous, but Anne Lowe herself looked the most stylish. What an inspiration!

So many beautiful clothes/gowns that she designed! She was a trail blazer.

I’m so happy to Ms. Lowe getting her long over due shine!

Ms Anne Lowe -what a superb talent that is unknown by many until this news piece-love her work, -she was a fashion designer force to be reckoned with—a true original!❤ thank you for sharing her with the world. She deserved this long awaited recognition.🎉

I would love to see a documentary and a movie or series about her life. I think this would be a great story to tell. I've heard of her before, though I think others may not have. So, it is important for this information to be accessible.

Her book should be on every coffee table in America!

The exhibit was wonderful, the gowns even more beautiful in person. Ann Lowe wasn’t just a dressmaker or a designer, she was a couturier. I wore Amsale (RIP🕊️) for my wedding. Had Ann Lowe been in business, it would’ve been a really tough decision.

I only knew who she was after I started sewing for myself, I was teaching myself to sew in 2021, and I bought all kinds of sewing books, until I read that she sewed Mrs. Kennedy's wedding dress, I was surprised that no one talked about her. How is this possible? 🤷🏽‍♀️
  • @its_so_edna
Wow! Thanks for doing this story. What a shame that her name is not out there with all the other designers of the same generation. 😊
  • @a.johnson1860
Why wasn't she in Vogue, or Harper's Bazaar? Or was she? So good that she is being rediscovered!
  • Thank you so much for remembering the talented and gifted coututier ANN LOWE. So many great African Americans pass away in poverty yet they left an amazing historical legacy i.e. Rosa Parks; Mildred Blount (miliner for all of the hats worn in the movie classic Gone with the Wind) architect Benjamin Banneker and many others. I am glad and proud of her amazing legacy.🙏

Gorgeous classy, brought tears to my eyes. Thank you Miss Lowe for continuing to enrich clothing design.

Love that Ann Lowe is getting this spotlight. My mom's family is also from Montgomery, Alabaama.
