Great work Matt. Great to hear an Australian accent doing these videos. I have been educating our brigade and group of brigades for the last few years about gas cooling before entry and also not opening windows and doors until the B.A. teams are set up and give the go ahead via the incident controller. This video was just what I needed. Glenn Webster CFA Lieutenant.

Loving the videos! You explain it super well. Would love some pump videos and also on backdraft :) thanks and keep up the good work.
  • verrrrrrrry interesting, especially for someone who is deathly afraid of dying in a fire.....I can NOT go anywhere near a building or house that is burned out, I get nightmares and panic attacks.......but I am trying to get over it by learning how fire works.......I have the Station Fire all circulating footage on my saved list, I hope I can get past this fear.
  • Hey Matt, Pommie fire engineer here from London. What a great way of presenting fire facts. So interesting and informative. Keep it going mate, and thanks.

I think of it as the heat from a fire bakes the smoke/syngas out of the materials in the room. Finally the heat in the room reaches ignition of the syngas in the smoke and everything ignites if there is air to feed it.
  • I’m absolutely loving these videos. I know nothing about fire. I’m hoping to write a little story where fire will be one element and I’ve got so much to think about. Thanks for this series, and protecting the community.

Hi Matt, I have a question, what's the difference between a flame over and a flash over?
