So we’ve got this guy, Dave Cam, and he’s pretty good at racing on the iRacing service. He’s particularly great at making helpful guides on the platform with that slow, methodical approach for teaching. While we usually have him on for track guidance, today is going to be a Dave Cam car guide.

Rookies to iRacing will be very familiar with the Global Mazda MX-5 Cup car as it’s a free addition when signing up for the service. Therefore, with so many drivers going through the rookie ranks to start their iRacing careers, the MX-5 Cup is one of the most popular cars to drive in the game. It also helps that it’s a popular car in general for drivers of all skill levels.

Dave has the tips and tricks to get everything you can out of the iRacing MX-5. From reference points to how to get the most out of any corner, from the ABS braking system in the car, gearing, and much more, strap in and learn what makes this Mazda tick.

This car guide takes place at Okayama International Circuit, and it’s the perfect place to practice all of Dave’s tips. If you haven’t checked out one of Dave’s guides before, definitely give those a watch. If you enjoyed what you saw today, give us a like on this video and subscribe for more content like this!

Good tips. Started a couple weeks ago and there's a lot to learn before I can break out of the bottom 10% 😅

Appreciate this dave, looooong story short, just bought a Moza R9, iracing for a year and 200 quid on my fav tracks and cars, and was stuck in rookies for a fortnight using the Mx-5 that cost 3 quid.

awesome. found this video by mistake ^^ Just yesterday on the Nordschleife we were guessing for the best revs to shift. And that Breaking stuff i found out by myself while "cruising" behind others. Thanks for that Dave.

My tip is.. if you have a large ish screen... extend the field of view to include your left mirror. Greater sense of speed and good for judging width of car.

I didn't even realize the MX-5 had ABS, mind blown. I thought it just had weak brakes. I come from games where I turn off all assists from day one. I assumed ABS in iRacing was something you needed to turn on, or maybe I saw "braking assist" in the settings and misunderstood it as ABS?

So damn useful, even at 1500 irating (7months) I learned so much. 😲 Thanks Dave! 🙏
  • @Slow370Z
Thank you so much for the braking part and shifting at 7000
  • I learned how to race formula Vee and enjoyed it so much more than mx5. For me it seems like people try to crash u less in vee because they know they are dead too after that. In every mx5 race the overdefensive guy i overtake after few rounds starts hitting me

Started Iracing last week. On the first track ive gone from peak laptime of 1:48 to yesterday managing 1:42 im still over 7 seconds behind a competitive laptime but I can see a lot of the mistakes ive been making now seeing this video. Thanks a lot for explaining everything.
