Triple Play is a favorite tradition here at Missouri Star Quilt Company. Once a month, Jenny, Misty, and Natalie each demonstrate their own unique spin on a favorite block, technique, or template. In this episode, the talented Doan ladies show off three fabulous new Block Star quilt patterns + 2 bonus projects.

Jenny's Mini Block Stars quilt is made with precut layer cake squares. Her fabric is Flora and Fun Ten Squares by Subhashini Narayanan for Robert Kaufman, and she uses the scraps to make 2nd project--a sweet pinwheel baby quilt.

Misty's Star Box quilt is made with jelly roll strips from the Tradewinds collection by Renee Nanneman for Andover Fabric. These coordinated stars pop on a neutral background for a look that's clean and classic.

Natalie's Sunflower Stars quilt is a layer cake pattern made with Homemade 10" Stackers
by Echo Park for Riley Blake. These blocks are rounded with snowballed corners, and there are plenty of scraps for a bonus table runner.

  • I would love to see a triple play where you all use the same fabric but different patterns.

My tip…if you have a huge pile of half square triangle to square up and can’t do them in one sitting, cut off the dog ears only after they’re squared. That way when you come back in a day, week, etc., you know where you’re at in the process.
  • I really like to make baby quilts at least the size of Natalie's quilt. Most parents aren't using quilts in cribs so the larger size is great as a floor play mat and they can still snuggle with it as they grow. All three quilts are wonderful. I especially like the smaller stars in Jenny's quilt and how she incorporated the border fabric in the top row. That caught my eye immediately. Thanks for sharing your talents with all of us❣️

I love triple play day….I get so excited to sit and just engross myself in your cool ideas! I think you should have a special deal on all 3 of the patterns as a bundle! I always love each of the projects…but usually have a favorite that I lean towards….this time I just loved them all!

You would think that after 45 years of quilting this old dog couldn’t learn anything new. This technique, to make small stars, is so creative. Someone may have seen it before, but it’s totally new to me.
  • @QuiltyNana
Wow, Nanalie and Misty are so very creative in their methods of changing the appearance and method of the blocks to make their amazing quilts! Jenny, you are blessed with these 2 by your side. ❤️
  • @AmHuJoEm
All such cute patterns! I use those scraps (that you just have to let go because they are soooo small), to make dog beds for the local animal shelter. I purchase used flannel pillowcases or soft throws from Thrift stores or Goodwill, for the casing. Then the guilt of throwing away disappears! LOL
  • @TexasTwins
Hurray!! It’s Triple Play!! 👏🏻👏🏻🥳🎉🎉 I L❤️VE to watch you three ladies working together, to assist each one present and explain her quilt creation! 😍 And the quilts are so spectacular! 🤩
  • @vzimmer1951
My first quilt was a log cabin. I made all my fabric into long strips, went to the quilt shop, and sewed ALL blocks at once. I made that queen size quilt in that one day! This video brings back sweet memories!

I am enamored with your BLOCK magazine. especially the one with the pinwheel 3D pattern runner. I am going to make a quilt with pin wheel blockws and two borders separated by a border with the 3D pinwheels in the outer corners and around the center block. I hope itworks out. but it is the happiest quilt block I have ever made. LOVE it. one day try to make a picot block, one with the 3D picots pointing into the squares, it comes out so darn cute.

Once Jenny pointed out the cat shape with Natalie's quilt block, that's all I was seeing! However, I love cats! I have all kinds of cat stuff in my home, and we have two feline family members. It was such a fun episode, the fabric Natalie chose was my favorite. Thank you for the new quilt ideas. Great tutorial.
  • @eileenmeyers6080
After Jenny said that about Natalie's quilt looking like kitty heads when I look at it that's what I was seeing and being a cat lover (we have 5 in our house....2 are mine and my husband's, 1 is my daughter's , and 2 are my granddaughter's since they live with us. We had 6 but I had to put my sweet oldest cat to sleep because she had cancer and was starting to suffer 😢) I loved the cat head idea 😊. Thanks again for great ideas from all of you. God bless you all.
  • I made this by star scrappy using all scraps was darling loved it best quilt I’ve made in a while love it Jenny

I didn’t even know Echo Park made fabric. Such a fun thing to know. I loved this triple play. I love them all but Jenny’s blew it out of the park! This was by far one of the best triple plays ever! You all must work so hard to get these to us. I look forward to them! Thank you
  • @rosehixon2790
I enjoyed watching this video and especially listening to it while I did my dinner dishes. In no time at all, my dishes were done my kitchen was clean and I had a little more education. Thank you, Don girls.
  • @karenjackson1700
Loved the blocks star.. new to quilting! 3 months. My first big quilt I did a double ring.. turned out great ( I think). Everyone told me I was crazy! Went to 8 different quilt shops to see if anyone could help me with corners.. and no one stepped up.. they have not done one.. so thought long and hard and I turned the pattern back wards and marked them and it worked!! So I would love to see you girls make one! Go big or go home.. ( I did come one with my seam ripper.. but learned a lot!!
  • @jeuler7266
Triple play and star quilts are two of my favorite things! I always love to see how beautifully different each of your quilts turn out to be. Thanks for ALL of the Triple Plays Videos.
  • Love Misty's quilt . You could make the dark stars from layer cake 10 inch squares, since measurements exactly match (4-2 1/2 x 10 , cut into 4-4 and 4-6"
  • @giseleharris3203
