A great video on the lore here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8iUzup3Nc4

The Sentinals didn't really betray the Doom Slayer; "If Sentinal blood is spilled on these grounds, you will lose all sovereignty here." Esentially, Doom Slayer broke a rule that was sacred to the Sentinals, hence why they raise their spears at him.

Choose how you want to die: Go to heaven: fight demons Go to hell: fight doomguy
-
Lol, imagine saying "It is not yours to take" to Doomguy who is trying to save his people. See how that works out.
-
Notice how Doomguy actually knelt in front of King Novik. Imagine the kinda monster you have to be to earn Doomslayers respect.
-
Slayer be like: “U rite king, but how bout i do, anyway.”
-
I like it how Samuel is helping Doomguy. When we first met him, he was a prick. Now, he's the dude that's helping your Holy Crusade.
-
As i understand it, there are two sentinels: the ones who are loyal to Khan Maykr, and the Original Sentinel who did not... I do hope there's still some left of the latter.

4:33 She speaks about Daisy lol.

“You cannot kill the priests” “They are still sentinel blood” Doom guy: “well, let me drain it from them”
-
Can't really blame them. Even if the priests are corrupted, like the King said, they are still sentinel blood. Doom Slayer killed one of their own, thus breaking a sacred law that is considered sacrilege.
-
What confuses me is the various armour patterns that the loyalist sentinels and the order of deag utilise in the lore and in the game
-
That is probably the worst mistake you could make.
-
The Sentinels: *come in Doomguy: Ho, you are approaching me? Instead of running away?
-
Doom guy doesnt have any pockets so were left to assume he just keistered a demon priests head for half a game
-
They didn't betray him, that's why he left without fighting a single one of them, for none of them were corrupted save for the priests. Doom guy knew very well he was making a transgression in their culture by doing what he did. Still one thing remains if you start to speculate and think ( by this point he killed two priests already, so the sentinels knew very well why he was there, they even said "alert the priest", yet they still let him in knowing fully well what he meant to do and also knowing they can't really stop him. So in reality they let him violate the sacred law, yet after he did violate it they had to act ( that's why you see them encircling him ). Bottom line is if they didn't want him to get to the priest, he would have to fight trough them from the start. But i think they still respected him since he was once their king.

As everyone is saying in the comments, they didn't really betray him as he broke the law. However that's not to say Doom Slayer wasn't betrayed in another way. The Sentinels he faced sided with hell and the Mayker and spat in the face of all they once stood for in the name of gaining power that hell would give them. In doing so they betrayed Doom Slayer and he was free once more to fight for Humanity instead of the people who took him in and then threw their lot in with the Demons.

Imagine pissing off Hell AND Heaven, all in the same day
-
Everyone: "It is their time to give Penance" Doomguy: Does it look like I give a crap?
-
"if you kill me the sentinels will have no choice but to attack you" kills priest "GUYS THE SENTINELS BETRAYED THE SLAYER WTF"
