Rot gut whiskey’s gonna ease my mind
Beach town rests on the “drying” line
Do I remind you of your daddy in his 88 Ford?
Labrador hanging out the passenger door
The sand from your hair is blowing in my eyes
Blame it on the beach grown men don’t cry

Do you remember that beatdown basement couch
I’d sing you my love songs and you’d tell me about
How your momma ran off and pawned her ring
I remember, I remember everything

A cold shoulder a closing time
you were begging me to stay till the sun rose
Strange words come on out of a grown man’s mouth when his minds broke
Pictures and passing time you only smile like that when you’re drinking
I wish I didn’t but I do, remember every moment on the nights with you

You’re drinking everything to ease your mind
When in the hell are you gonna ease mine
You’re like concrete feet in the summer heat
It burns like hell when two souls meet
And you’ll never be the man you always swore
But I’ll remember your singing in that ’88 Ford

A cold shoulder a closing time
you were begging me to stay till the sun rose
Strange words come on out of a grown man’s mouth when his minds broke
Pictures and passing time you only smile like that when you’re drinking
I wish I didn’t but I do, remember every moment on the nights with you

Rot gut whiskey gonna ease my mind
Beach town rests on the “drying” line
Do I remind you of your daddy in my’88 Ford
Labrador hanging out the passenger door

I'm a 71 year old woman, and having loved music all my life, and still listen to current releases. I am moved by these beautiful voices and the song they have created. It is both heartwarming and heartbreaking - thank you

As I battle with alcoholism, depression and PTSD while I await help from the VA this song hurts but helps. It’s just different when it says “ you’re drinking everything to ease your mind, but when the hell are you gonna ease mine” it reminds me that I have a gorgeous, loving and caring wife that helps me fight through my battles. I have a different appreciation for this song.

Kacey Musgraves’ voice is angelic. It soothes the souls when the lyrics are ripping the heart out.
  • Ain't much to remember cos he was usually busy drinking but one day my dad took me and my brother out for the day, an unheard of gesture. He didn't say much, but we sat down at a park bench and he took an apple out and split it with his pocket knife and gave us each a half. As stupid as it sounds that is a memory I'll always cherish. I stopped drinking 18 days ago so I can offer my daughter more memories than a split apple
  • Man I’m gonna be tired at work in the morning, but I’ll be damned if I don’t listen to this whole album before I fall asleep
  • “Strange words come on out of a grown man’s mouth when his minds broke”. This phrase hits more than anything.. in god bless Zach Bryan

I lost my wife 4 years ago. We had been together for 10 years but we were a young couple. I’ve been lost without her. RIP

My mom is turning 94 and living in a care home, every time this song comes on she says she really likes this song. I’m not sure if she knows the words or if she loves the sound of the voices, regardless I’ve added it to my playlist.
  • Love the classic feel to this. Most country these days, sounds like pop. We need more country music like this.

Lost my soulmate of 47 yrs to cancer 6 months ago, every day hurts as bad as it did the day after July 16th, heard this song in the car yesterday and ' bam! ' she was with me again, it has a mesmerising melancholy quality you just got to hear over again!

"You only smile like that when your drinkin" saddest yet truest line I've ever heard.
